Our engine finally blew, we bought from a machine shop,...but this time we wanna build our own and have to buy a ring filer...looking for something not real complicated, something basic but does a outstanding job.
What is a really good ring filer ?

If only building an engine here and there, use a fine cut file as mentioned. Debur with a piece of 400 grit wet/dry, or a fine sharping stone.

I placed an order for this one yesterday.

Produce valve stem clearance and end gap rings squarely with one tool. 120 grit silicon carbide wheel holds shape and produces clean, precise cuts.
After fileing with the 120..i would assume deburr and maybe clean it up a lil with some higher grit sandpaper or something ???

That unit looks like the one I got from Childs and Albert many years ago. Mine runs fine after alot of motors. Use a jeweler file to smooth the the 4 sides of the ring end you cut. Test fit the ring end in the piston groove. Never used a powered type. The only challenge I've had was with Stainless rings; it cut them, just took longer.
