I've been running a .030 over Race Engineering short block for three seasons with an off-season rebuild each year to replace rings/bearings and hone the cylinders. Bores are still good and rings seal well but starting to get a little piston slop and think it's time to go to .040 over. Block is small journal, strapped mains, 5.7 rods, Weisco pistons with metric ring package. My question - is it safe to go .040 over on these blocks? Have had differing opinions all around. Figured some experts on here may have some good advice.

Have never had any problems with bores up to .040.We have had issues with .060 pistons. Most every one around here runs .040 blocks even in the big stroker combos.

If overly concerned try to find someone that can SONIC CHECK each cylinder for wall thickness. That way you will know how much you can safely overbore.
