CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 26 of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season is the penultimate week of the season, and with three opportunities to net points with Make-Up races and Double Features, the title contenders will be hitting the road in search of points to decide the $10,000 Championship.

Going into Week 26, Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA holds a one-point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings over Chase Washington of Houlka, MS. Both drivers will be trying to net on 49s, which means they must score a 50-point victory to net one point.

In all, 23 drivers are still mathematically alive to earn one of the Top 10 points fund-paying spots in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with two weeks to go in the 2012 season.

West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO will host the only Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 26 event, which will be a Week 23 Make-Up Race. This race will be the focal point of the 2012 season, as it could make or break both Championship and Top 10 hopes for several drivers.

Trosclair cannot net any points in this race because he already has a 50-point win for this week of competition. He can, however, still win the race which would keep Washington from netting the point with a win.

There will be two Double-Feature events on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 26 schedule for this Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS and Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. The first feature race at Greenville Speedway will be a Week 25 Make-Up Race, and the first feature race at Jackson Motor Speedway will be a Week 11 Make-Up Race.

Both Trosclair and Washington are eligible to net points in the Make-Up Race at Greenville, but only Washington can net points in the Make-Up Race at Jackson Motor Speedway, as Trosclair has a 50-point win on the books for Week 11. The second feature race at both tracks will be the regularly scheduled Week 26 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events.

Four other tracks will also host NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 26 Saturday night events. West Plains Motor Speedway will return to action with their second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event of the weekend on Saturday night with the $1,000-to-win Fall Nationals Race.

411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, will be in action on Saturday night, as the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models will be a part of their Race To Cure Alzheimer’s special event. 411 Motor Speedway will also host a Week 27 event.

Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS will move from Friday nights to Saturday night racing for the final two weeks of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS is also on the Week 26 Saturday night schedule. The Mag will also host the final race of the 2012 season on September 30.

With two weeks to go in the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, there are still five drivers with a mathematical chance to win the $10,000 Championship. Looking ahead to Week 27, the final week of the season, there are currently five races on the schedule, including one Double Feature event with a Week 16 Make-Up Race at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings and trails Trosclair by five points and Washington by four points. Trosclair has 797 points, Washington has 796 points, and King has 792 points. King will be trying to net on a 48 and two 49s. If King chooses to travel this weekend, he could net four points with three 50-point wins.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL and Duke Palasini of Leland, MS are tied for the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 790 points apiece, and both drivers are eligible to net six points with three 50-point wins. Shaw can net on a 47, a 48, and a 49 this weekend with 50-point wins this weekend, and Palasini can net on three 48s.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 789 points and will be trying to net on two 48s and a 49. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh in the points chase with 786 points and also will be trying to net on two 48s and a 49.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 777 points and will be trying to net on two 47s and a 48. Robby Moore of Brosley, MO is ninth with 775 points and will be trying to net on a 42, a 45, and a 47. Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO rounds out the top ten with 769 points and will be trying to net on a 41, a 43, and a 46.

There are 13 drivers currently outside the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings that still have a mathematical chance to finish in one of the points fund-paying positions by the end of the season on September 30. There are four drivers that could move up into the Top 10 after Week 26 competition.

Bret Holmes of Munford, AL and Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN are tied for the 11th spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 768 points apiece, just one point outside the Top 10. Holmes will be trying to net on two 45s and a 46, while Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) will be trying to net on a 45, a 46, and a 47.

Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS are tied for the 13th spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 761 points apiece. Harrison will be trying to net on a 44 and two 45s, and Jordan will be trying to net on a 43, a 44, and a 45.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 26 Live Updates will be posted on Friday night and Saturday night on the NeSmith Racing Facebook page as the Road To The Championship unfolds.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.

The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.

These engines are in stock and ready for free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA. The Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engine is on sale for $5,095 and the Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine is on sale for $3,195 at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
