“The Million Dollar Man” Donnie Moran
Dominates WVMS “Buzzy Topless Classic”
Apple Grove, WV. September 20, 2012~The “Million Dollar Man” Donnie Moran of Zanesville, OH dominated the 1st Annual Buzzy Topless Classic at the newly reconfigured WV Motor Speedway. www.wvspeedway.com. Moran became the 1st repeat winner of 2012 after 7 of 10 scheduled events for the ADRA Dirt Late Model Championship Series presented by Suddenlink! www.suddenlink.com. Promoter Lynn Chapman and the WVMS crew performed a yeoman’s task getting the facility ready to race in such a short time. Buzzy Holiday, the event name-sake, and crew put in countless hours reconstructing the facility and preparing the track surface. The ADRA is looking forward to our next visit to “the Speed Plant” on October 6th for race number 10 of 10.
The American Dirt Racing Association Dirt Late Model Championship Series, now in its 2nd year, is a regional Super Late Model Series competing primarily in the WV, OH, and KY Tri-state region. Our goal is to work with our region’s tracks and drivers to orchestrate special events that treat our fans to dirt racing action as fine as anywhere in the country at a family friendly price. Moran won the ADRA Super 8 Dash to gain the pole position in this inaugural event after drawing #1 in the dash redraw. That was all that was needed to take command of the event. The ADRA Super 8 Dash was a teeming with a wealth of talent; Donnie Moran, Jared Hawkins, Eddie Carrier, JR, Chris Garnes, Stevie Lucas, Rod Conley, Zack Dohm , and Freddie Carpenter. The “Salt Rock Express” Eddie Carrier Jr. would make his presence known in the feature by bringing the #28 Grover Motor Sports Rocket to 2nd from a 6th place start as he got by, Jared Hawkins who settled in on a 3rd place finish in the #37. Doug Drown in the #63 Weekley Electric Rocket annihilated the field to win heat race #1 starting from dead last after a horrendous crash into the turn 1-2 wall in warm-ups and was not expected to return. Drown would prove with certainty everyone was wrong by extending his campaign on the field finish 4th in the feature and take yet another Dominator Hard Charger Award.
Delmas Conley would also show why he is ranked with the best of the best with a 2nd place finish in heat #1 followed by “King” Sonny Conley 2 time “King of the Mountains” Late Model Champion in his new #1x1 Rocket. Sonny would go on to finish 8th in the feature while Delmas brought his #71 Rocket in 9th.
Heat Race #2 saw the #Y4 Tru-Tech Chassis of Anthony Huber take the victory with the #12B of Travis Brookover in tow followed by the “Franklin County Flyer” Russ Frohnapfel in the #45. The #02 of Jason Flory also had a strong run winning the consy with #45(X) of Nick Corbit and the #64 of Marshall Wiblin rounding out the top 18 in the field. The #DT1 of Darin Roush would take the ADRA series provisional. The track did not have a provisional available since it was their 1st race of 2012.
“Hot Rod” Rod Conley maintains the series lead by a mere 14 points with an impressive 5th place run in an elite field of our regions very finest competitors. (Rod) Conley in the #71R took the points lead after race #2 of the 10 race schedule. Long time regional veteran Russ Frohnapfel in the #45, who has been a strong runner all year, in spite of engine woes managed to race his way into the field but slipped to 3rd in the points after the afore mentioned crusade by Doug Drown. Donnie Moran holds 4th and the “Zack Attack” Zack Dohm in the #17 Rocket chassis rounds out the top 5 in points. The #C4 Tru-Tech of “Fast Freddie” Carpenter looms just 9 points behind in 6th place.
The ADRA’s next stop will be races number 8 and 9 in Peebles, OH at yet another successfully reconfigured track known as “the Creek”. The 3/10ths mile track at Brushcreek Motor Sports Complex will host “One Epic Weekend” featuring the ADRA Dirt Late Models presented by Suddenlink, the OVSCA 410 Sprints, and the UMP Dirtcar Modifieds on September 27-29. There is nearly $88,000 in purse payouts being offered over 3 days and 7 classes involved in this “Epic Weekend”! This is definitely a “MUST SEE” event neither the drivers nor fans will want to miss!
The ADRA Late Models will compete in the American Heritage Classic. This will be twin 50 lap features paying $10,000 to win each! The winner of the 2nd feature will have the choice of taking the cash or a sweet 2012 Harley Davidson V-Rod! www.brushcreekmotorsports.com.
Here is the catch; the 2nd segment is completely inverted! As the good book says, “The first shall be last and the last shall be first!” (Matt. 20:16) This will create a host of scenarios. A racer’s natural tendency is to win. In this race the decision must include consideration of where their finish in segment 1 will place them for the start of the 2nd segment. Both segments will count as full ADRA points as well so this race will definitely affect the ADRA championship battle. To win both segments will require a herculean effort and quite frankly some luck!
Kids be sure to stop by the Racers In Christ booth. They will have the jump house this race. Last race they had an availability problem but that won’t be a problem this race. As always, there will be free Bibles on hand and plenty of spiritual inspiration for anyone in need.
