CARTERSVILLE, GA – After 445 drivers have competed in 227 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events over 26 weeks, two drivers – Chase Washington of Houlka, MS and Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA – are tied for the point lead with 798 points apiece, and will battle for the $10,000 Championship this weekend in the 27th and final week of the 2012 season.

There are five races at four different tracks on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 27 schedule of events. Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will host Double Features this Saturday night with the first feature a Week 16 Make-Up Race, and the second race being the regularly scheduled Week 27 feature.

Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS and 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN will also host Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 27 events. Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will host the final race of the season on Sunday night.

So the stage is set for the championship battle and here are the scenarios to the $10,000 prize for Washington and Trosclair. Going into the weekend, Washington holds the tie-breaker advantage with 14 50-point wins to 12 50-point wins for Trosclair, and both drivers will be trying to net one point with wins on a 49.

Trosclair is eligible to net points at both feature races on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park and Washington is not, as Washington already has a Week 16 50-point win as a part of his best 14-week point totals. If Trosclair wins both feature races on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park, he wins the $10,000 Championship.

Trosclair wins the $10,000 Championship if he wins one race on either Saturday or Sunday night, and Washington fails to win a race over the weekend. If both drivers win a race on Saturday night, but don’t win on Sunday night, they will remain tied and Washington wins the $10,000 Championship with the tie-breaker of more 50-point wins.

If both drivers don’t win on Saturday night, they will go to Magnolia Motor Speedway. Trosclair then has to win on Sunday night to take the title. If Washington wins a race on Saturday night, and Trosclair doesn’t win a race on Saturday night, Washington then clinches the $10,000 Championship.

Mother Nature, however, could change everything. Any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 27 that is rained out will not be rescheduled.

The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season ends at the completion of the Sunday night event at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Series officials are optimistic that the races will go on as scheduled as the percent of precipitation has been going down with each passing day leading up to the Championship Weekend.

Behind Washington and Trosclair, there are still a dozen drivers battling for the third through tenth points-fund paying spots in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with just 26 points separating them. Ryan King of Seymour, TN is third in the standings with 793 points and he will be trying to net on a 49 in the final week of the season.

The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Runner-Up Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is in the fourth of the points chase with 792 points, just one point behind King. Palasini can net on a 48 and earn two points with a 50-point win. Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL is fifth with 790 points and will be trying to net on a 47. A 50-point win would net him three points.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 789 points and will be trying to net on a 48. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh with 786 points and will also be trying to net on a 48. Robby Moore of Brosley, MO is eighth with 783 points and will be trying to net on a 47.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is ninth with 777 points and will be trying to net on a 47. Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 772 points and he will be trying to net on a 43 in the final week of the season.

Behind Berry, there are four other drivers, all within five points of him and all trying to net on 45s, that will be trying to earn a seat at the banquet table and collect a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point fund check this January at the Thunder Road Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA.

Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN is 11th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 771 points, just one point behind Berry. Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS will be looking to make his second straight trip to Dawsonville. Harrison is 12th with 769 points.

Bret Holmes of Munford, AL is only 14-years-old, and if he can move from 13th with 768 points to 10th in the standings, he’ll need someone to drive him to the banquet. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is 14th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 767 points, and is only five points outside of the tenth spot.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship Week Live Updates will be posted on Saturday night and Sunday night on the NeSmith Racing Facebook page as the Road To The Championship and the Hottest Point Battle in Racing reaches its exciting conclusion.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.

The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications.
