I wouldnt use velcro... Checkout autobodytoolmart.com they have the items there you need...

There maybe other outfits out there also.. But that is where I got my stuff...

I got the "stikit" kind.. 80 grit paper disk and a backpad... This is a 8"pad and disk...

I ordered mine from Oreilly's. They are made by 3m and are actually held on by a nut like a regular grinding disc. I will get you the part number.

Those velcro ones are too thin and tear up all the time.

Stockcar thanks, but that looks a little too aggresive for me. Im just looking for something to clean the dirt off a tire. I've got a 7" buffer/polisher. Will that 8" piece fit on my grinder? or i could just cut them down i guess

Pajamie, are you talking about the one for $100? Is there any thing out there cheaper that will do the job? Thanks everyone for your help

^^^ what i have also, they last along time, they are alot faster and dont smoke em as much as a flap style disc. i prob ground 20 tires before i ripped it off and put a new one on it.

IF it smokes at all you are hurting your tire. Smoke is made by heat and heat cycles the rubber.

yea, A variable speed polisher will work better than a grinder also.

We get our velcro ones from Home Depot in the rental section. They fit some kind of floor scrubbing machine. Think there 6 5/8inches or something like that. Hope this helps.

The kind i use are 3m fibre disc. 50 grit. Dont wrip and last a long time. And i recommend one of hose variable speed polishers instead of a grinder.

I use a variable speed 7 in from harbor freight. Was like 40 bucks. Let grinder get up to speed before touch tire and lasted 2 yrs n counting. Spin just fast enough so sander dont bog and burn up. I use 80 grit. Bought adapter so paper has nut in center to tie to pad. Easier o find sanding disks w this style. I got it at northern tool.

Also i was curious do ya sand side to side or up and down? Or dont matter? Thanks.

I like to use this same combo and 36 grit. I cut the rear tires across and the front tires around so all the little cuts work in the direction of the way I would cut the tire. We have tried this at practice and on fresh tires the car was around .10-.25 seconds a lap better for a few laps and it was mostly thru and out of the corners.
