For Immediate Release: 201 Speedway October 6th. Track Writer; Chris Belcher. “Racing continues at 201 the month of October.” Lemaster Wins Open Wheel Feature” Wagner scores Late Model Checkers

Following a historic re-opening of one of the most recognized Dirt track facilities in Kentucky, the 201 Speedway again hosted a full night of action in five racing divisions with nearly 100 drivers racing in front of a good crowd of spectators despite chilly temperatures and several other activities going on with the ending of the festival in Paintsville.

Late Model qualifying posted the #24H, Dargie Race engine powered Rocket chassis of Salyersville’s Michael Paul Howard with the fastest circuit of 13.79 in his “Custom Suspension”, “Red’s Boot Barn” sponsored machine while the #33 of Kevin Wagner was 2nd quick at 13.82. J.W. Motersports made the Late Model fast time worth an extry $100.00 Howard took control of the 25 lap race from the drop of the green with the #33 of Wagner keeping within a couple of car lengths over the opening circuits. Lap 9 saw Howard’s hopes of the feature win fade after track officials noticed a flat right front on the leader. Howard’s pit crew managed to make the change, returning the former champion to the field at the end of the line. As they got the green for the re-start, Wagner took control of the point with Willard driver Terry Hicks’s #9 and the #5 of Jacob Curnette challenging. Wagner continued to control the point as the battle waged for the 2nd and 3rd spot were the most contested with Curnette , Hicks, Brandon Fouts and Shannon Thornsberry making it a four way challenge for the second spot. With the front runners keeping to the inside line of the turns, Thornsberry chose to look for speed three grooves higher, nearly hitting the outside wall off the fourth turn. After Pulling alongside Hicks and Curnette as they passed the start finish line three wide with only a handful of laps remaining. Lap 18 saw the #17 of Thornsberry complete the pass for 2nd with a powerfull run off the tall side of the fourth turn, but with only three to go, Hicks would re-take the spot as the two veterans put on a show for the runner up spot. With the white flag showing one lap to go was displayed by flagman Bucky Tackett Wagner enjoyed a good advantage and would go on to take the win, while the race for the runner up finish would put the crowd to it’s feet with the #17 of Thornsberry making a hard charge at Hicks and with the two only inches apart Shannon Would take 2nd by less than a foot ahead of Hicks. Dereck Fisher finished 4th with the #24H early race leader Michael Paul Howard recovering from the flat on lap 9 to race back to a 5th place finish.
In Open Wheel qualifying, 12th year driver, and former track champion at 201 in 2009 Salyersville’s Scott Lemaster made the fastest circuit around 201 at 15.70 in the Hubert Spurlock and Clifford Jacobs owned “Fast Jack Racing engine powered Lighting chassis.. Mt. Carmell Tenn. Driver Son Flanary posted the 2nd fastest time of 15.93.
Lemaster took charge of the scheduled 20 lap feature which would see the time limit end the race on the 10th lap with Lemaster dominating the race and taking the checkered flag at the controls of the “Giovanni’s Pizza” of Prestonsburg, “Twin Bridge Auto Parts”, “Jenny Wiley Liquors”, “East Ky Race Parts” sponsored #11 Lighting. Fast Trucking owner, Shon Flanary finished as the runner up followed by Kevin Hall and Justin Jacobs. Lemaster dedicates his feature wins of the 2012 season to the memory of his Mother Darlene, who passed away three years ago.

After crossing the line second to long time driver Jim Lemaster who suffered motor problems before the start of the feature in earlier Heat Race action, Isom driver, “Racin” Tim Mason led all 15 laps of the Bomber feature in the Lee’s Lee’s racing engine, Pinetop Motors, Day’s Racing engines, Checkered Flag Graphics sponsored Nova. Albert Lee finished second followed in third by the #73 of Charlie Mullett Tim Watts and Salyersville’s Don Risner.

In his first effort at 201 Brandon Henson picked up the Four Cylinder Feature win at the controls of the “Mit’s Signs & Graphic and design”, Sweeney Trucking, C & C Machine Shop, R &K Log Home Finisher’s sponsored Mustang. The #7K of Pikeville’s Kinsey Patton would cross the finish line as the runner up after a solid performance ahead of Logan Burke, Marty Hall, James Crowe and Last Sat. night’s winner Nathan Martin.

James Hall of Teaberry led the 1st 8 laps of the Modified four Cylinder feature in one on the most unique looking machines of the night with three feet of Lexan on either side of his car, but lap 9 ended his time on the point with mechanical problems, handing the lead to 17 year old Senior at Riverside High School in Breathitt County, Deanna Noble. For the final four laps, Noble would turn back all challenger’s and score the first feature win by a young lady in years at 201 with her “Jeff’s Body Shop & Towing”, Dee Whit Signs & Graphics, “Heartbreaker Trucking, “J & J Stables, “J.B.S Trucking”, “Tobacco Warehouse”, Spenser Construction” sponsored C.J.Rayburn chassis. The #99 of Steve Cruse finished second Hall recovered to post a 4th place finish ahead of London Ohio driver Joey Johnson.

This Sat. night the 201 Speedway will run their 3rd Sat. night of racing with another complete show of Late Models, Open Wheels, Bombers, Four Cylinders’ and Modified Fours. Oct. 20th 201 will take the night off for the Dirt track World Championship, then the following Sat. night, Oct. 27th. 201 will play host to a $3000 to win Late Model feature with several of the most recognized in the late model world scheduled to race the red clay of 201.
