Sumar Classic” USAC Silver Crown Series & Modifieds Saturday Oct 13th at Terre Haute Action Track
Saturday October 13th, The USAC TRAXXAS Silver Crown Series continues a “Sumar Classic” tradition started at the Famous Terre Haute Action Track half-mile. Also in action will be the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds. Throughout the years this “Classic” has produced wins for Kevin Thomas, Tony Elliott, Jack Hewitt, J.J. Yeley, Brian Tyler, Josh Wise, Bud Kaeding and Dave Darland, who won the 2008 race. Gary Bettenhausen actually won USAC’s first Silver Crown race at the storied Terre Haute oval, in 1980.
A tight USAC TRAXXAS Silver Crown points battle is shaping up heading into Terre Haute. Bobby East of Brownsburg, IN is the current point leader with a 6 point advantage over 2nd place former champion Jerry Coons Jr of Tucson, AZ. Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, CA is currently in 3rd only 11 points behind the leader. Five drivers actually have mathematical chances for the 2012 championship, although Kaeding trails by 42 points and Tanner Swanson by 57 with a total of 66 points available during the “Classic”.
Kody Swanson fared the best of the title hopefuls when the series last visited Terre Haute in 2010. Swanson was fifth in the 100-lap race, compared to a seventh for East, a 15th for Tanner Swanson, a 15th for Kaeding and a 24th for Coons.
Saturday’s event completes a two-night Terre Haute USAC extravaganza, with the “Jim Hurtubise Classic” AMSOIL National Sprint Cars racing on Friday night.
The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will take to the famed Terre Haute half mile on Saturday night for a $700 to win show. With a long history of action packed racing on the dirt oval, the UMP Modifieds always put a show that is not to be missed!
Saturday October 13th Gates open at 4pm, Hot Laps at 6pm, Qualifying at 6:30 and Racing action begins at 7:30 (All times are Eastern Standard Time).
