ARCA Series Rolls into DuQuoin with a Tight Points Battle & Impressive List of Illinois Drivers

On Sunday October 14th, the picturesque DuQuoin State Fairgrounds will come alive with the thrills of speed as The ARCA Series presented by Menards and the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds roll in!
The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards take to the track for the 60th running of “The Southern Illinois 100”. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world. “The Southern Illinois 100” is a marquee event with a past winner’s list that includes the likes of Jay Frank won the inaugural Southern Illinois 100 in 1950. Just some of the winners who would follow include Marshall Teague, Indy 500 winners Jimmy Bryan and AJ Foyt, Fred Lorenzen, Don White, Norm Nelson, Jack Bowsher, NASCAR champions Rusty Wallace and Tony Stewart, Bob Keselowski, Frank Kimmel, Billy Thomas, Ken Schrader, Parker Kligerman, and most recently, Chris Buescher, in 2011.
“The Southern Illinois 100” will be a critical battle in the ARCA Series 2012 points chase with just one remaining race after the drivers take on the “Magic” dirt at DuQuoin. 19 year old Chris Buescher driver of the #17 Roulo Bros. Ford is the current ARCA Series point leader. Veteran Frank Kimmel is currently chasing Buescher from the 2nd place points position. Rookie Brennan Poole is looking on from 3rd with Rookie Alex Bowman in 4th. As well as Chad Hackenbracht sitting in 5th still having a mathematical chance in the 2012 point standings.
The DuQuoin Magic Mile always attracts a talented assortment of Illinois drivers to the line-up. This year's entry list includes a strong contingent from the Land of Lincoln including Mark Littleton (Arenzville), AJ Fike (Galesburg), Kelly Kovski (Springfield), Rodney Melvin (Benton), Joe Cooksey (Centralia), Joseph Hughs (Springfield), Shane (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)rum (Benton), Mike Affarano (Shorewood), and the 2011 UMP Late Model National Champion, Ryan Unzicker (El Paso).
