Chilton Captures Night #1 of 8th Annual Ironman Classic/Border Wars Weekend at Lake Cumberland

Burnside, KY-October 12, 2012- It would be night one of the 8th Annual Ironman Classic/Border Wars Weekend at Lake Cumberland Speedway and Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would take the $3,000 payday and add to his victory total in 2012 at the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval. Other feature event winners included Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY in Modifieds and Eddie Stewart of Manchester, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman.

Brad Neat would take the lead at the drop of the green flag of the 40 lap, $3,000 to win event, with Michael Chilton and Vic Hill giving chase. Four caution periods in the first 10 laps would slow the action, but Neat would continue to hold the race lead. Victor Lee would drive past Hill for third on lap 14 as Neat and Chilton would begin to pull away from the field. Neat would begin to slow a bit on lap 28 allowing Chilton to close in on him and Neat would give up the race lead on lap 31 with a flat left rear tire. The restart would have Chilton at the point when second place Lee would spin in turn one on the restart. Chilton would again be in command of the field on the final restart, while Tanner English got rolling around the topside over the final seven circuits, working by Justin Rattliff and Johnny Wheeler. Chilton would see the checkered flag first behind the wheel of his Central Painting/ Chilton’s Lawn Care/Dial Painting/FYS Race Products/Blue Moon Farms sponsored #97 Revelution Chassis, Bullock Race Engines powered mount. Hill and English would take second and third, while Wheeler and Rattliff completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Dustin Neat, Brad Neat, Lee, Jeff Neubert, and Michael Asberry. Twenty-four entries would see Vic Hill be the overall top qualifier at 13.234 seconds, while heat race wins fell to Hill, Brad Neat, and Chilton, with Dustin Neat winning the B-Main.

Tommy Bailey would fend off the repeated challenges of Ricky Arms to claim the victory in the Modified main event aboard the Matthew and Kenneth Jordan owned Jordan Motorsports/Mac-Trac Transportation/TSM Enhancements/Lakeside Towing/Diamond Auto Collision/Best Waste Services sponsored #17J Lightning Chassis powered by a Niebel Race Engine. Arms would finish second, while Mikah Reams would come home in the third position. Elliott Despain and first-time visitor Tony Garber completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Don Adams, Tim Patrick, Ricky Tinch, Keith Denny, and Tommy Turner. Twenty entries would see Arms as top qualifier at 14.384 seconds, while heat race victories went to Arms, Bailey, and Despain. Jared Reams would be credited with the B-Main win.

Eddie Stewart would stop Keith Decker’s winning streak in the Super Dirt Stock/Sportsman division by claiming the feature event win in the seat of his unsponsored #119 machine. Decker would finish second, while Phillip Anderson and Donnie Sullivan, Jr. completed the running order. Four entries would see Decker win the heat.
