24th Annual Southern All-Star Joe Lee Johnson / Gobbler 100 Weekend at Cleveland

Cleveland, Tennessee (10/25/12) The November tradition of the ‘Gobbler’ continues with the 24th annual running of the East Tennessee classic on Saturday November 17th at the Cleveland (TN) Speedway. The event, which will again be sanctioned by the Southern All-Stars Racing Series, will pay the winner $5,000 of the 50-lap Super Late Model (SLM) affair with over $20,000 in prize money up on the line.

The defending race winner is Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC and the race will be the fifth appearance of the season by the Tennessee based S.A.S touring series. Two time and current National Champion Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN captured the $10,000 Shamrock event back in April and local racing icon Skip Arp of nearby Georgetown, TN captured the Tennessee Memorial back in May. Defending series champion Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN won the other two mid Summer Cleveland Speedway S.A.S events in August and September.

In addition to the S.A.S series, the Steel Head (LLM’s) will compete for $2,000 to-WIN. A $75 entry fee will be charged for this division. The Crate LM’s will compete $1,500 to-WIN, with a $50 entry fee for this division. A-Hobby has a new weight rules: 2750lbs. if Bert or Brinn transmission – 2650 if stock transmission. The B-Hobby has a new claim rule also: It’s a $1,000 and swap motors. The Pony’s, A-Hobby and B-Hobby all pay $500 to-WIN with a $25 Entry Fee due race-day. The FWD will race for $300 to-WIN with a $20 Entry Fee.

Southern All-Stars Racing Series rules and procedures will be in effect for the Super Late Models which will see a full program of Practice, Time Trials, Consolation Races and the 50-lap “Gobbler” A-Main event. Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN holds a 110 point lead over current runner-up and Rookie of the Year leader Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN. Florida’s Shan Smith of Dade City, Billy Ogle Jr, and Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN reside in third through fifth in series points.

Ticket prices for the ‘Gobbler’ are as follows: Adult Grandstands $20.00 while Adult Pit Passes are $30.00. The gates will open at 2PM EST on November 17th with the grandstands opening at 3PM. The driver’s meeting is slated for 6PM.
