when changing a spring at the track, what is the rule of thumb as to how many turns to put in or out of your coilover. say you are going from a 250 lb rr to a 200 lb rr. i was told to put 6 turns in. on a fine thread shock.

you really need to check that on the scales,or if you do it at the track find a good fairly flat spot and mark your wheel, then mark your sheet metal so that you can take a measurement, then shake the car down good, take a measurement, change your spring, and then shake the car again, try to get your measurement again and put rounds in to get your measurement if needed,
this should get you real close but doing it on the scales youll get perfect everytime
most races are won at the shop, because of all the homework that is done there

We have done it very similiar to GRT74...Measure from the ground to the wheel well cut on the body...change the spring and turn in or out to get the same measurement from the ground to your reference point..You keep your ride heights very close that way

we always finsd a flat area and reset ride heights, then adjust one pound per pound of spring change. If you do this on the scales, right the shock bulb measurement down and jsust set it at the track from those measurements.
We also make standard measurement marks on the chassis as a quick reference at the track and it is very close to what they need to be.
Obviously if you have a spare shock or different valve or frequency shock, set witht he spring and keep it together, it will keep you ride heights when chaged.

we always check on the scales, and count the number of turns it takes. just depends on how accurate you want to be.

Usually about 2 rounds on an AFCO for a 25# change. Measure your ride height before and after the spring change to be sure.
