The Third Annual Silver Dollars Nationals will be bigger yet

The best of the best will be returning to I-80 Speedway for the Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals (SDNIII) to be held from July 18 thru 20, 2013. Once again the race will be co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA). Last year, Muscatine, Iowa’s Brian Birkhofer held off Scott Bloomquist to take home a check for $26,000. This year SDNIII will be part of the nine race Crown Jewel Cup of Lucas Oil races.

Qualifying for the Super Late Models will once again feature the popular Double Qualifying Heat Races for each participant. There will be no Time Trials. The 80 lap feature will pay $27,000 to win and $1,300 to start. In addition, there is the Belt Bash non-qualifiers race which could pay as much as $2,700 to won. With Lucas Oil and MLRA returning to sanction the event, many of the nation’s best Dirt Late Model drivers will be on hand for SDNIII.

In 2012, Lucas Oil drivers included the two-time series champion and two-time dirt late model driver of the year, the “Newport Nightmare” Jimmy Owens. The “Real Deal” Don O’Neal was not only the 2011 SDN winner but was also the winningest driver in the Lucas Oil series in 2012, posting 11 Lucas Oil feature wins. “Dark Sunshine” Scott Bloomquist needs no introduction to dirt late model fans and despite an off-season in 2012, Bloomer is sure to be back on his game. Add Steve Francis, John Blankenship, Earl Pearson, Jr. and the rest of the Lucas Oil drivers to the mix and you have a heck of a lineup.

In the off-season, Lucas Oil purchases the MLRA and with more money behind that series it is sure to grow. Last year, Omaha’s John Anderson picked up his third MLRA Championship. In addition, you can always count on a number of drivers to show up that do not follow a series. Names like Birkhofer, Billy Moyer, Jimmy Mars & Terry Phillips. Finally, you have I-80 & SLMR regulars such as Kyle Berck, Travis, (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)es, Justin Zeitner, Bill Leighton, Jr. and the rest of the regulars.

The United Stated Modified Touring Series (USMTS) will once again return as the companion class. The USMTS will again run complete Central Region shows on both Friday and Saturday night. Friday’s show will pay $3,000 to win and Saturday night’s $2,000 to win. In 2012, Ryan Gustin repeated as the the USMTS National Champion.

The Thursday, July 18 program will consist of open practice for Lucas Oil/MLRA Super Late Models and USMTS Modifieds plus a complete racing program featuring the SLMR/CDM Super Late Models, Nebraska 360 Sprints and B Mods. Adult tickets will be $15 for Adults, Ages (6-12) $5 and Ages 5 and under free.

The Raised Grandstand (with individual backed seats) will be Reserved and go on sale December 17. All seats in the Raised Grandstand will be $28 ($25.93 + $2.07 sales & seat tax) on Friday, July 19 and $32 ($29.63 + $2.37 sales & seat tax) on Saturday, July 20. The Bleacher Seats on both sides of the Raised Grandstand will be General Admission. On Friday night the Bleacher Seats will be $28 ($25.93 + $2.07 sales & seat tax) for Adults, $10 for Juniors (6-12) with 5 and Under free. On Saturday night Bleacher Seats will be $32 ($29.63 + $2.37 sales & seat tax) for Adults, $10 for Juniors (6-12) with 5 and Under free. A $1.00 per ticket handling fee will be added.

20 backstretch RV parking spots at $300 each are also available overlooking turn two and the backstretch. Backstretch parking sold out in 2012 and those individuals who had backstretch parking in 2012 have until April 10, 2013 to renew their spot. Anyone interested in backstretch parking can call and their name will be put on a waiting list. In addition to a premier 3 day parking stall each purchaser receives two pit passes to all three nights of action. Reserved Camping spots are also available. If you pre-purchase a three day grandstand ticket you can also reserve a camping spot free. If you do not pre-purchase your tickets, camping spots will be $25 for the three days.
