I mount mine under the cowl near the master cylinders. Less heat and protected somewhat from moisture. Use the vibration mounts. Also if you can, mount it to a plate that is held in with dzus fasteners so you can pull it out at the car wash.

That's where we have both our boxes...Inside the coffin under the brake and clutch master cylinders on front..Just remember to make it easy to get to the chip..Use rubber mounts...

I ran the box on the firewall with the rubbers. Box failed with the transformer looking thing loose in the box. Motor ran but bad. Only figured it out when changing the box with spare. From then on I mount them flat.

We mounted them flat in the Super Stock also. Haven't had any problems with them on the sides for a few years now...A 6AL and a 6ALN...

Right under the gauges in front of the shifter that cubby area but even then not sure its kind of goofy still... Maybe above the steering shaft on side might work too...

Some rules state " out of reach of driver"; for the chip. Make sure.

I believe the 6al n is nascar sealed inside, so that would reduce the components shaking out.

Sounds like above the steering shaft is the way to go its closed off from water and heat as I have heat barrier in front of it... In engine area...
