I think that's the fitting size, not a line size. Probably just personal preference on the fitting...

No that is the line size , in theory the #3 line will expand less and result ins stiffer pedal

Smaller line equals better brake feel because they will expand less. They are even selling #3 line with #4 ends so you don't have to change fittings. John 1*
