I'm lost on my springs now. I thought my car had Chrysler type leaf spring on it. I measured from front eye to mounting tab and it is 20 inches, which is what Chrysler spring are. The problem I have is the springs are only 2.5 inches wide.. I thought Chrysler springs were 2.75 inches wide. Do anyone know what the spring width is on a Chrysler.. Im sure these are not Camaro springs. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks.

What makes Chrysler leafs a popular choice on leaf cars ?Dont hold me to it. But i have been told the disign of them makes them act like traction bars. I guess its because the way the rear end sits further forward on spring. And just the way they are made in general.. Im sure someone with a lot more knowlage can go into a better explination than me.. I'm still new to all this

A leaf spring has two separate functions... the part from the center bolt forward does two things... locates the spring and can act as a "traction bar" if it is built to counteract spring wrap up.

The rear part, from the center bolt back, is the actual "spring" part.

The spring should be installed so the front eye is level or slightly lower than the c/l of the axle.

A modern parallel leaf will generally be shorter from the center bolt to the front spring eye than the rear. The old buggy spring suspensions used a spring that was equal length from each center bolt.

Be careful and don't let anything touch the springs. A flat tire can take out the spring.
Check the torque on the u bolts, for some reason they come loose.

There is no such thing as a 2 3/4 inch wide spring. Chryslers, Gm's are 2 1/2 inches wide. Here is a screenshot from the SRI manual for Chevy. As you will notice they are 25" front the center of the front eye to the centerbolt and 31" from the centerbolt to the rear eye. I will be posting the chrysler information in the next post. http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac102/let-r-eat/chevroletpassengerspringscreenshot_zps31845e51.jpg

What you will notice is you are going from a 25" front eye to center bolt length to a 22" front eye to center bolt length. The Chrysler is 4" longer on the rear. The header of those columns is:Spring Part Number .............car.................year............. width..........front length...........back length......arch as measured from laying straight edge through mounting bolt holes and measuring down to main leaf at center bolt location...............front bushing part #...........size of rear eye.

I don't mean to be harsh here in any way. I've been around the suspension industry the majority of my life and have never seen a 2 3/4 inch wide spring. I suggest you're measuring wrong?
