14" rim verses 12" rim?

whats the benefit of running a 12" rim verses the normal 14" rim?

I remember seeing a photo of bloomquist car on it's roof and you could see the rs tires were on 12 rims. might be more stagger or the taller side wall will let the tire roll over more not sure thats a possitive.
