Anticipation Building for Ponderosa Speedway’s Ambitious 2013 Racing Season

Junction City, KY- February 3, 2013- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Larry Yantz and track co-promoters Chad and Sarah Yantz are excited as anticipation continues to build toward the 2013 racing season at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red-clay facility better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring”, which will begin its 41st season of dirt track racing when the green flag waves on the 2013 racing season.

With the first practice date only 54 days away, the track will feature an eighteen event schedule that will see action begin with an open practice event on Friday evening March 29, while the 2013 season opening event to kick off the most anticipated season in the 41 year of the storied track will take place on Friday evening April 5.

The Super Late Model division will headline the track’s racing program each week, with the exception of May 31, when they have the evening off. In 2013, the track will host the first-ever $10,000 to win event for the Super Late Model division, as there will be a pair of $10,000 to win shows. The first show will be the 2nd Annual Red Clay Bash on Friday and Saturday July 5 and July 6, while the other $10K to win event will be the 6th Annual Friday Night Rumble on Friday August 23. Ray Cook’s Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals will also make a stop at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday April 19 for the inaugural Spring Showdown, which will pay $5,000 to the winner. The season will close out on Friday and Saturday October 11 and October 12 with a pair of Super Late Model special events. On Friday October 11, the 9th Annual Ironman Classic by CT Promotions will take place, paying $2,000 to win, with the season set to conclude on Saturday October 12 with the 23rd Annual Fall Classic, paying $5,000 to win for the Super Late Model division. The 2012 Super Late Model track champion was Dustin Linville of Lancaster, KY.

The following will be the weekly racing payout schedule for the Super Late Model division for the 2013 racing season (25 laps/$1,200 to win): 1st- $1,200, 2nd- $600, 3rd- $500, 4th- $400, 5th- $350, 6th- $300, 7th- $250, 8th- $200, 9th- $175, 10th- $150, 11th- $125, 12th through 18th- $100 to start.

For 2013, the Pro (Crate) Late Model division will return to Ponderosa Speedway and will be known as FASTRAK Late Models, as all events in the division will be sanctioned with the FASTRAK Racing Series. The FASTRAK City Chevrolet National Touring Series will make its first-ever visit to Ponderosa Speedway on Friday May 31 as the Colston Paving 40 will return to the schedule, with that event paying at least $2,000 to win. The FASTRAK Late Models will also race for $1,000 to win at the Ironman Classic by CT Promotions event on Friday October 11. Jeremy Hines of Seymour, IN is the defending track champion is this division when it last competed full-time at the track back in 2010.

The following will be the weekly racing payout schedule for the FASTRAK Late Model division for the 2013 racing season (20 laps/$600 to win): 1st- $600, 2nd- $350, 3rd- $300, 4th- 250, 5th- $200, 6th- $175, 7th- $150, 8th- $125, 9th- $100, 10th- $85, 11th through 18th- $75 to start.

With great car counts and awesome racing action in 2012, the Modified division returns and will also see its richest event ever at Ponderosa Speedway in 2013 when the open-wheel warriors will compete for $5,000 to win as part of the Red Clay Bash event on Friday and Saturday July 5 and July 6. The Modifieds will also have extra money to win events as part of the Ironman Classic by CT Promotions on Friday October 11 ($1,000 to win) and as part of the Fall Classic on Saturday October 12 ($1,500 to win). Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY was the 2012 Modified track champion.

The following will be the weekly racing payout schedule for the Modified division for the 2013 racing season (20 laps/$600 to win): 1st- $600, 2nd- $350, 3rd- $300, 4th- 250, 5th- $200, 6th- $175, 7th- $150, 8th- $125, 9th- $100, 10th- $85, 11th through 18th- $75 to start.

The Sportsman division returns to action in 2013 and looks to once again attempt to steal the show with its exciting door-to-door action (Note- “Clip Cars” and “Fast Boys Set-ups” will NOT be legal in 2013). The Sportsman division will be highlighted on Friday May 17 with the 3rd Annual Weekend Warrior 30 which will pay $800 to the winner, along with racing for $500 to win at the Fall Classic event on Saturday October 12. Donnie Sullivan of Stanford, KY was the 2012 Sportsman track champion.

The following will be the weekly racing payout schedule for the Sportsman division for the 2013 racing season (15 laps/$300 to win): 1st- $300, 2nd- $200, 3rd- $150, 4th- $125, 5th- $100, 6th- $90, 7th- $80, 8th- $70, 9th- $60, 10th- $55, 11th through 18th- $50 to start.

The Front Wheel Drives, which debuted full-time at Ponderosa Speedway in 2012, will once again be back for action in 2013 as more interest is being shown toward the entry-level division. The Front Wheel Drives have their first-ever special event take place on Friday July 26 with the inaugural Front Wheel Madness event, paying $400 to the winner. Brandon Holt of New Haven, KY was the 2012 Front Wheel Drive track champion.

The following will be the weekly racing payout schedule for the Front Wheel Drive division for the 2013 racing season (12 laps/$200 to win): (Four or more entries)- 1st- $200, 2nd- $125, 3rd- $100, 4th- $90, 5th- $80, 6th- $70, 7th- $60, 8th- $55, 9th- $50, 10th- $45, 11th through 18th- $40 to start.

For the 2013 racing season, the pit area and general admission area will open at 4:00 p.m. There will be a mandatory drivers meeting at each event at 7:00 p.m. Practice laps will begin around 7:20 p.m., followed by time trials at 7:45 p.m. The first race of the evening will get the green flag at 8:30 p.m. (all times are Eastern Daylight Time)
