Wheeler, Bailey, Decker, and Light Honored at Lake Cumberland’s Celebration of Champions

Burnside, KY- March 2, 2013- Lake Cumberland Speedway hosted its Celebration of Champions on Friday evening to put the finishing touches on the 2012 racing and to preview the upcoming 2013 race season as well at the Hal Rogers Training Center in Somerset, KY.

Johnny Wheeler of Campbellsville, KY was honored as the 2012 Super Late Model track champion. The title was Wheeler’s second consecutive honor in the division, having also won the title in 2011. Wheeler’s championship season saw the veteran second-generation racer compete in ten track points and garner five top-five feature event finishes. Salvisa, KY native Michael Chilton would finish second in points, with veteran Randy Ridner of Eubank, KY taking third place honors. Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN would finish fourth in points, while Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY and Victor Lee of Danville, KY would finish in a tie for the fifth position. The remainder of the top ten in Super Late Model track points would be Michael Asberry of Crossville, TN, Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY, Tommy Gregory of Monticello, KY, and Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY.

Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY was honored as the 2012 Modified track champion. Bailey’s championship run saw him compete in twelve track points events and garner six feature event checkered flags along the way for the driver that is a former track champion in both the Super Late Model and Modified divisions at the track. Former track champion Tim Patrick of Albany, KY would finish in the runner-up spot in points, while another former track champion, Ben Petrey of Corbin, KY, would finish in the third position. Keith Denny of Brodhead, KY and Mikah Reams of Mount Vernon, KY would round out the top five in final points. Completing the top ten in Modified division points would be Jerry Pyles of Somerset, KY, Stacey Decker of Eubank, KY, Jeff Richards of Orlando, KY, Jared Reams of Mount Vernon, KY, and Virgil Parriman of Whitley City, KY.

Keith Decker of Somerset, KY was honored as the 2012 Super Dirt Stock division track champion. The ageless veteran, who is a former track champion in the division, would turn in a dominating season as he would capture eleven feature wins in the thirteen points events contested in the division and accumulate more points than any driver at Lake Cumberland Speedway in 2012. Defending track champion Tim McMullin of Bronston, KY would finish second in points, while Sarah Patrick of Albany, KY, Goble Bertram of Monticello, KY, and Richard Price of Lexington, KY would round out the top five in division points. Finishing sixth through tenth in Super Dirt Stock track points would be Phillip Anderson of Russell Springs, KY, Scott Hutchinson of Monticello, KY, Chad Spradlin of Whitley City, KY, Donnie Sullivan of Stanford, KY, and Johnny King of Lancaster, KY.

Rusty Light of Nancy, KY was honored as the 2012 Front Wheel Drive track champion. Light would score seven top five feature event finishes, including three second place performances, on the way to capturing his first ever track title at LCS. Charles Burton of Somerset, KY would take runner-up honors in the class, while Adam Gregory of Gray, KY would garner third place honors. Johnnie Adams of Somerset, KY and Jayson Henderson of Somerset, KY would complete the top five point earners. The remainder of the top ten would be Scott Tomlinson of Somerset, KY, Jeremy Strunk of Bronston, KY, Stephen Cain of Somerset, KY, Brandon Holt of New Haven, KY, and Brandon Lee of Keavy, KY.

The evening would be concluded with remarks from track promoter Brandon Hardgrove thanking the racers and fans for their support in 2012 and previewing the 2013 racing schedule. Hardgrove also announced the addition of the Road Hog division to LCS for the upcoming 2013 season and also announced the Front Wheel Drive division would be open up to allow rear-wheel drive machines to compete as well. The track is set to kick off its 33rd season of dirt track racing on Saturday evening April 6 with a full program of racing for Super Late Models, Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Road Hogs, and Front Wheel Drives.

Lake Cumberland Speedway is located on Race Track Road just south of Burnside, KY. Brandon Hardgrove is the track promoter and will present dirt track racing on Saturday nights throughout the 2013 season.
