Is it acceptable to shim my steering rack ? I bought a sweet rack and the integrated servo hits the cross member. so I shimmed it 3/16" and made it clear the cross member do you see any problem in doing this ? My old rack was a appleton.

What kind of car and what year is it. I bought a new sweet rack for my 2005 blue rocket and they recommended a "bump" kit which was an 1/8" spacer under rack and spacers for each tie rod which I cant recall the length of, I think it was a .400 on 1 side and .600 on the other. Even doing that, Rocket said I would have to grind my servo down until it cleared. Anthony at rocket said they have to do this on all there cars. I had to grind off quite a bit which was kind of hard to do to a $1200 rack lol. To answer your question, I wouldn't just space the rack without checking your bump, you may cause some problems.

my 2 cents.

Don't grind on the rack, cut a notch out of the crossmember and box it in. I've done several, not that big of a deal. If you shim up the rack, you'll screw up the bump. JMO.

Maybe, maybe not.
Some cars are supposed to have a spacer under the rack.

Shimming a rack changes bump steer. Make sure you check and adjust bumpsteer if needed as it can make a race car more than a handful to drive when it isn't right.

I have it shimmed now I will check the bump where its at now and move accordingly. Before I get the hatchet out I will check it good.
