American Modified Series Announces Exciting and Diverse 2013 Racing Schedule

Glasgow, KY-March 13, 2013- The American Modified Series is pleased to announce its schedule of events and preview of the upcoming 2013 racing season as the tour enters its fourth season of sanctioning Open Wheel Modified dirt racing action. The AMS tour will operate once again under the rules and regulations of the UMP DirtCar Modified guidelines, allowing racers to not only earn points toward the American Modified Series championship, but also earn points toward the UMP DirtCar Modified national championship.

The tour boasts eleven events on the schedule at this point, with a pair of to be announced dates as well, at a list of storied and diverse racing facilities, making the racers stay on top of their game and providing great racing action for race fans. The event prize money up for grabs with the American Modified Series for 2013 is a new record for the series, with the eleven events scheduled at this juncture scheduled to pay the winners in excess of $31,000 in first place prize money

The open-wheel warriors of the American Modified Series will kick off the 2013 racing season on Saturday April 13 with the tour’s first-ever visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, with that event paying $3,000 to win and $225 to start. The first of a pair of to be announced dates is on Friday April 26, while the tour will return to Cedar Ridge Speedway in Morgantown, KY on Saturday April 27 for a $1,500 to win/$200 to start event.

No events are on the schedule for month of May at this points, but action resumes in the month of June with a pair of events set. Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH will see the AMS tour return on Friday June 21, while the tour returns to Florence Speedway in Union, KY on Saturday June 22. Both of those stops will be $1,500 to win and $200 to start events.

When the month of July arrives and the temperatures heat up, so will the action with the American Modified Series. The other to be announced date looms on Friday July 12, while the tour returns to Cedar Ridge Speedway in Morgantown, KY for its second visit of the 2013 season on Saturday July 13 for a $3,000 to win/$225 to start event. Action continues in the month of July as the tour will visit Eastern Kentucky for a weekend doubleheader of action on Friday July 19 at 191 Speedway in Campton, KY and the tour’s first-ever stop at 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY on Saturday July 20. Both of those races are $1,500 to win/$200 to start events.

The tour will take a short break until the 2013 Labor Day weekend rolls around and the AMS tour will present the “Labor Day Loot” weekend, with all three of these events being at first-time tracks on the AMS schedule and all taking place in the state of Illinois. The weekend begins on Friday August 30 at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL for a $3,000 to win/$225 to start event. On Saturday August 31, the tour visits Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL for a $5,000 to win/$250 to start event, with the weekend set for completion on Sunday September 1 at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL for another $5,000 to win/$250 to start event.

The tour will then be idle until Saturday October 26 when the American Modified Series 2nd Annual Season Championship event will take place with a return visit to Florence Speedway in Union, KY as part of the track’s annual Fall 50 event, with that event paying $5,000 to win and $250 to start. This event drew an AMS tour record ninety plus entries in 2012.

The tour will continue to have its fastest qualifier award program in 2013 and Quick Car Racing Products will be the sponsor of that contingency program in 2013, with the top overall qualifier at each AMS event receiving $100. All Star Performance will continue to sponsor the hard charger of the race award, while also continuing the tour’s chassis builder and engine builder award programs. A new program, the AMS Shock Challenge, will debut in 2013, with participating companies already signed on for the program including AFCO, Bilstein, Integra, and Pro.

The tour will see Shane Mugavin of Cincinnati. OH, an accomplished Modified racer during his driving career, serve as race director in 2013. Mugavin replaces former race director Ken Kenneda, who accepted a full-time position with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
