The late model i bought already had the oil cooler mounted, so I was going to use it obviously instead of buying new. The motor I bought came with all the dry sump lines, but the lines made to go to and from the cooler are -16 ends while the connections on the cooler are -12.....my question is, is it OK to just buy adapters to adapt down to -12, or will this possibly restrict too much flow to the system and damage the engine?

i would think it would be ok i run -12's on mine with no issues

Would be more worried about what may be inside the cooler.

I agree I would replace the cooler only for the reason I know nothing about it. I'd look at what you spend on a motor if there is dirt and metal in the cooler compared to the price of a new cooler.

My local tranny shop has a cleaner for coolers, it has a filter on it. They run fluid through the cooler and keep checking the filter till it comes up clean. Maybe someone near you has one.

regurdless of how clean someone thinks they may be able to get it. i wouldn't take the chance either. it takes very little to destroy a motor and if the cooler was plumbed -16 sound like they were post cooling the oil so any and all debris from an engine has probly been going through it. i'd say if your going to use it to cool off the scavenge side its ok but i wouldnt use it to cool oil on the primary before your engine.

coolers range from $200 to $350 the ones for $250 are pretty darn good

how much is your engine worth?
