BOYD SPEEDWAY RESULT 3-29-2013
With several weeks of postponements due to bad weather the fans and racers alike finally got the chance to play in the dirt at Boyd Speedway. With the preliminary hot laps and heat races completed it was time for the first regular season feature to get underway. This brought out the heavy iron on the B-Hobby Division. The 15 lap event was slowed three time for cautions, the first coming on lap 5 when then #0 of Josh Kilgore slowed on the front stretch. The new look of the #45 Dallas Brooks found his way right where he had left off last year leading yet another race. Dallas Brooks found that changing the look of his car didn’t hurt the way it drove as he went on to capture his first victory of the year. Following Brooks to the finish were Ronnie Kerr #C6, David Vickers #D38, Daniel Johnston #7, and #44 of Floyd Brooks rounded out the top 5.

The full field of Crate Late Models was up next. A couple of veterans Todd Morrow and Jason Welshan would bring the field to the green. A quick jump to the inside would give the T16 of Todd Morrow the early lead followed by a aggressive #29 of Jason Welshan. Kasey Hall piloting the #42 tried to get in the mix for the early lead as well. A lap 6 caution for the #28 of Tommy Smith who spun his car in turn 4 would set the field tightly aligned for the second start. On the restart Welshan would drive his #29 down to the bottom of turns 4 in an attempt to get under the leader of Todd Morrow, but Morrow had enough horses under the hood to slam the door on Welshan as they enter turn #1. The top three continued to fight as they began to move through slower traffic. A lap #15 cautions would see the #23 of Curtis Cline take his racer to the pits ending any chance he had for a good finish. Once back underway Todd Morrow would hold off all challenges and take his first victory of the year. Rounding out the top 5 would be #29 Jason Welshan, #42 Kasey Hall, #56 Kyle May, and the #23 of Corey Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word).

The A-Hobby would be up next and with the absence of division dominate driver of Booker Brooks the fans were assured to see a new winner in this division. A couple of competitors that had fought a hard battle during the seasons Cabin Fever would find them back in the same place on the night. The new look for the #2 of Glen Seaton would line up alongside of the previous winner #16 Josh Walker to bring the field to the green. Seaton would take the lead at the drop of the flag followed closely by Walker and #77 BJ Wilson. The three would battle closely as the quickly pulled away from the rest of the field. The #5 Josh Bingham would slow the field with a lap 2 caution when he took his ride to the infield. Once back under green Seaton would go on to hold off the challenges of Walker and Wilson to take his first victory of the new year at Boyd Speedway. Following Walker and Wilson to the checkered flag were #13 Jim Clark and #10 John Clark III.

The 19 cars of the Steel Headed Late Models were brought to the front stretch for this week’s feature. Many of these competitors were trying to tune their racing machines for the next week upcoming Advance Title Pawn’s sponsored 40 lapper $3000 to win event. Georgia’s Johnny Cloer Jr would bring the field to the green. A quick caution in turn 1 on the start would see the race brought to a quick red flag condition as many of the front competitors had their racing machines stacked one against another. When the smoke and dust had been cleared the #T22 of Mike Tinker would take his heavily damaged car to the pits with the assistance of Benton Wrecker Service. The field was realigned for the restart. This time Johnny Cloer Jr would bring the field back to the green, but after being involved in the first start caution his car quickly began to fade back with front end steering issues. The #B00 of Billy Henry would take the early lead followed by the #22 of Bobby Mayse. The new look for the #A1 driven by Rick Hixson quickly pulled into second from his 8th place starting position. As Henry and Hixson battled side by side for the lead lap after lap a hard charging #R1 of Riley Hickman quickly worked his way to the two way battle from his 10th starting position. With Henry holding a fast line in the middle of the racing surface Hixson continued to drive harder and lower each lap attempting to get past Henry. As the two battled lap after lap in the same fashion Hickman set back and watched from his third place running position. As we reach lap 10 Hickman decided the track was good enough and wide enough to make it a three wide battle for the lead. Hickman drove his Black #R1 deep into turn 3 on the high side and motored around both Henry and Hixson into the lead. Once out front he began to show his dominance and quickly put space between himself and the rest of the field. On lap 17 Hixson made the move and finally got around Henry for the 2nd place. Riley Hickman would capture his first victory of the new season followed by #A1 Rick Hixson, #B00 Billy Henry, #007 TJ Alford and #22 Bobby Mayse.

The final feature of the evening would see the #3 Daniel Burnette hold off all challenges in the FWD division.
