I bought a used quick change and need to convert it into one i can use in my modified. the axle tubes are wide 5, so i need to first buy a set of steel. Problem is every measurment i get the tires will be 4 inches out side the body on both sides.. My old axles, that were in a 9 inch ford housing are left rear 28 3/4. Right rear 33. That kept tires inside body. What axle lengths and tube lengths do i need for grand national style hubs?

what kind of chassis do you have? Are you sure you had the correct 9in rearend under it?

If you are trying to use your 9" axles in the quickchange, that is the problem. A 9" has the pinion off center about 2 1/2", the QC is centered. The axles lengths will be different for the same track width between the two. Go to a Coleman catelog and they have diagram to figure out axle length based on rear end and hubs.

What are you trying to achieve? Most are 60" center... In that case, the B Measurement is L: 21.5" R: 21.5"....

we're doing the same thing on a qc right now the over all width of the rearend with out hubs is 59 1/4'' allows for 3/8'' thick drive plates on each end. measure the width of your qc's center over all width out side to out side of the bells subtract that from your 59 1/4'' and then add 10 inches this is the amount of tube that will be pressed in the bells 5 inches per side. divide that by 2 for each tube length.

example: 59 1/4-23=36 1/4 +10=46 1/4 /2=23 1/8 per side

for axles add 1 1/2(for the drive flange that hang's out in to the wheel area) to your 60 and divide by 2 should be around 30 3/4

this should help you get close remember not all brands are the same and the stack up on the rear center section will very even with in the same make.
