Ray was called wrong in steel head. Tech man said mufflers were wrong 30 mins after he called them right in post race tech. Some wishy washy stuff from what I heard.

the mufflers were protested by williams car owner, they appeared to be legal mufflers but when they were protested and a header was took off, the mufflers were cheated up, this is one time when his name didnt get him by, congrats to boyds for doing the right thing.

Mufflers were not cheated up at all. They came straight from the manufacturer that way. Car owner even offered to have a new set shipped to the tech man so he could see but tech man refused. Get your facts straight.

They cheat them up at the factory, you can buy them that way.

These were not cheated. Anyone there could have looked and seen they were not cheated. Came straight from the factory untouched.

I heard from a very reliable source he had titanium muffler bearings and that's why he was called illegal.

Like I said, the car owner said he would have the exact same muffler shipped to the tech man to compare the muffler on the 27 from last night to prove it was untouched, tech man refused the offer.

Bottom line is they were cheated up! Anyway it was a great race between William and cook! Both guys are class acts! I personally don't think cook would ever cheat but he was driving someone else's car. The mufflers were wrong and kudos to Boyd's for making the rt call. Cook and William def put on a show for all 40 laps!

At least he has a name.Ray cook didn't win because of a muffler , he won because he is a better driver.

The tech man can order any type he wants, or a car owner can order either kind,so that don't prove anything they used to use a loud meter?

old7flags
04-06-2013, 03:27 PM
Does this mean Ray Cook is cancelling his Spring Nationals race in May to even the score?

cook53fan
04-06-2013, 03:52 PM
The decibel meter wasn't used to test how loud the 27 was. They had no proof that it could be louder than 100db. That question was asked and the tech man said he could tell how loud it was but there was no proof. And for everyone saying they were cheated up is wrong. I saw them myself and I can tell you they weren't! They werent the hush power or schoenfelds so the tech guy said it was wrong.

A. Mufflers are MANDATORY. SCH112530 or SCH112535 are legal. Use of Hush power muffler part#13012100 or 13512100 receives 50 lb. weight break. B. Exhaust is not permitted out sides of car body. Exhaust must be parallel to the ground. C. Dirt Pro Mufflers are prohibited due to manufacturers claims stating the inability to meet required DB levels.

from boyds site , as per their website no decibel rule, only illegal muffler dirt pro which they were not

There is an "unwritten" decibel rule. Tech man said it must be under 100 decibels no matter what muffler.

I have a question.Rays mufflers was protested by another driver? That was a visual protest right? he wanted to visualy look at them?Go to the steel head rules it plainly says all visual protest must be made before the race.... meaning spoiler height, tire protest, check for muffler brand or look inside to see if they have been welded up.you get the picture. The only protest that should be allowed after the race would be a decibal check... better yet the track should have checked the mufflers before hot laps .it suck when you race all night and get done like this the guys a few places back have the same mufflers on and probb some people won in other class with the same mufflers and get there wins and money...

cook53fan
04-07-2013, 03:52 PM
Tech man said that the mufflers are always checked after the race. And it's not a visual protest. That question was asked during the dq discussion. Ray had called the track a week before the race and he was told to bring the car with the mufflers that were on it! I personally think it was about protecting the locals. I heard a big sponsor of some local cars was doing the most complaining.

RAY COOK WAS TOLD ADD 50 LBS AND ACTUALLY ADDED 75 BEFORE THE RACE BECAUSE GAR (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)SON KNEW WHAT MUFFLER HE HAD. HE WEIGHT 2430 AFTER THE RACE.

cook53fan

And he only had to weigh 2300...pretty sure a muffler wasnt what beat the 22.

Time to move on bc the mufflers were wrong. Several drivers wanted the mufflers looked at and yes Boyd's always checks the mufflers after the race.

5 more laps and the 22 car would've passed cook. at the checkers, 22's right front was beside cook's left rear!

3 people which included promoter and track owner , checked the car with a camera up in the muffler, said not exactly what they wanted but it was ok , if they came back have different ones next time, they said that's the same thing they did for crate cars the week before.they went had there picture made and then called them back over and wanted to check there heads after those were determined legal they said they were good they were legal , then as they were loading 20 minutes later they came back and wanted to take header off and look at muffler again, then they went over away from everyone with the sponsor of the 22 and came back and said we hate to do this but we have to disqualify you, so I guess when you sponsor 6 or 7 cars at the track you get your way. and for the genius that said if they would have had 5 more laps 22 would have passed him anyway, last time I checked they don't pay the fastest car , they pay the first one to the checkers, except in this case then its the sponsor who threatens not to bring his cars back.

Cherypicking!

cook53fan
04-08-2013, 04:22 PM
You want to talk cherry picking? Then what would happen if you took out every driver that was in the field with super experience? You'd eliminate at least a quarter of the field, including Thomas. So Thomas would be a cherry picker too. And ray had just as much right to run limited as anyone else there. He paid his entry fee just like everyone else did.

stevo
04-09-2013, 12:29 PM
There is a difference in late experience and a proffesional.but what does it mean when they say it's not what they wanted but it's ok they were either right or wrong.

So it sounds like the money man behind Thomas and some other Boyds cars is calling the shots at Boyds. It should be quality entertainment when Thomas tries to go thru tech again at a legit SLM show with that (spec) motor.....The money man might be boss at Boyds but he wont be at SLM shows. I could not believe Thomas and that (spec) motor were not protested at North georgia's Southern nats show last year.....I Didnt buy it then and dont buy it now.

This might be a little late my mind ain"t as sharp as it once was LOL . Any way to the poster talking about cherry picking Boyds does not have a true open late model class and keep in mind a top notch steel head motor cost as much or I have heard more than a open motor just a little thought to throw out there. Also remember Cook is funding his own team now he was in someone else"s car but the mans gotta eat. My whole point is this Cook is a class act and I was not there he more than likely accepted the decision loaded up and went home like I said a class act. If the roles were reversed I wonder if Thomas would have done the same???????

got2win
04-12-2013, 07:12 AM
Ray Knows the rules he has been there more than once. Yes Ray is a class act and I would say William is too. I don"t know of a steel motor that costs 40,000 dollars but on the average that races out there I would say spends between !0,000 and 15,000 dollars. If i thought I had a chance at 3000 dollars I would have changed mufflers even if i had to change hedders to.
