CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 3 of the 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season has a new leader at the top of the point standings. Jerrod Fremin of Montz, LA drove the Fremin Racing Chevrolet to a second-place finish on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA to bring his season total to 118 points.
Fremin has a four-point lead over Chad Hiers of Ocean Springs, MS, who holds the second spot in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 114 points driving the Hiers Construction Chevrolet. Donnie Ellis of Kiln, MS is third with 113 points in the Moss Towing Chevrolet.
Dave Nations of Raymond, MS drove the Street Stock Setup Specialist Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine to victory on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS to move into a tie for the fourth spot of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL in the Spears Racing Special, each with 99 points.
Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL is in the sixth spot of the NeSmith Performance Street Stock Division standings with 97 points in the Riddle Racing Special. Wayne Medders of Morton, MS in the Medders Construction Chevrolet and Trey Bright of Northport, AL are tied for the seventh spot with 93 points apiece.
Bright picked up the win on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway in Moulton, AL driving the AKA Cores Chevrolet. Jonathan Warnicke of Booneville, MS is ninth in the standings with 91 points in the Warnicke Racing Special.
The point leader going into the weekend, Roger Flynn of Denham Springs, LA in the Flynn Racing Chevrolet did not compete in Week 3 action and dropped into a tie for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings at 90 points with Kyle Rutledge of Meridian, MS in the Whynot Garage Chevrolet.
In other NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 3 action, Rocky DeGruy of Denham Springs, LA took the win on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in his first NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division outing of the season driving the Westside Oil Recovery Buick.
After some stories to the contrary, Moulton Speedway remains a part of the NeSmith Performance Street Stock Division. A miscommunication regarding a grace period for track branded American Racer tires has been resolved between NeSmith and track officials.
Moulton Speedway joined the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division just prior to the beginning of the season, and track was permitted to “grandfather” in competitors that had already bought these tires. The tires have been marked by the track and the competitors have until May 1 to use up the rear tires, and until July 1 to use up the front tires. The competitors using the tires in question must also add 50 pounds to their race cars.
Drivers that race at NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. The 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.
