Birkhofer Racing Sets Sights on Ralph Latham Memorial Following Long Holiday Weekend

(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Brian Birkhofer and his #15b team spent their Memorial Day holiday weekend in racing action at the pristine Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri and the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. The huge weekend kicked off at Wheatland with a $5,000 to win Lucas Oil MLRA Series battle on Thursday night, May 23. Brian won his heat race and later started from the inside of the fifth row in the 40-lap feature event. Unfortunately, the Muscatine, Iowa star was an early retiree and wound up twenty-eighth in the final rundown.

The 21st Annual 'Show-Me 100' then took center stage on May 24-25 at the 3/8-mile Wheatland facility. Brian laid down the seventh quickest lap in Group A during Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying on Friday and later finished second in heat race action. When the $30,000 to win 'Show-Me 100' went green on Saturday evening, Brian started the 100-lapper from the inside of the fourth row. He raced inside of the top five early in the crown jewel event before dropping to a twelfth place performance.

On Sunday, May 26, the long Memorial Day weekend wrapped up at Granite City with the annual 'Budweiser 50,' which boasted a $10,000 top prize. Brian timed in third fastest in his group during UMP DIRTcar Series qualifying and later grabbed the third transfer spot through his stacked heat race. Unfortunately, "Birky" suffered problems during the 50-lapper and was placed eighteenth in the final finishing order. Complete results from both Wheatland and Granite City can be obtained by clicking on www.dirtondirt.com.

Weather pending, the Birkhofer Racing team plans to head to the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on Saturday, June 1 for the 27th edition of the ‘Ralph Latham Memorial.’ The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction all of the action at the 1/2-mile, Cincinnati area speedplant. A $10,000 winner’s check will be on the line in a 50-lap feature event. Brian, who is a frequent visitor to Florence for the ‘Ralph Latham Memorial,’ finished tenth in last year’s version of the event.
