Scott Sexton Memorial Halted on Lap 17 by Mother Nature; Make-Up Date To Be Announced
Bulls Gap, TN-June 1, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series made its first visit to the Joe and Phyllis Loven promoted Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN since 2004 on Saturday evening for the Scott Sexton Memorial event, but activities would be halted after 17 laps of the Scott Sexton Memorial main event were completed when rain showers moved into the area.
The rain shower lasted for just a few minutes, but it did shine and grease up the racing surface, forcing track officials to have attempt to work the race track back into shape and much progress was being made until the rains returned and saturated the racing surface at that point, forcing the rest of the event to be postponed.
A make-up date will be announced for the event early in the week, as the event will resume on lap 17 of the 52 lap, $5,200 to win Scott Sexton Memorial event, with the event being restarted with the field lining back up on the order they were running when the caution and eventual red flag waved on lap 17 for inclement weather. Also, Volunteer Speedway track officials have indicated they will present a complete new racing program on the make-up date as well, with the Super Late Model portion of that event to be sanctioned by the Southern All Star Racing Series. All race fans need to keep their general admission ticket for use at the make-up date and race teams will need to keep their pit passes for use on the announced make-up date as well.
Chris Madden took the lead at the drop of the green flag and had led the first 17 circuits of the event before the rains came down, with Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, Billy Ogle, Jr., and Vic Hill in the top five spots at the time the caution waved for rain and later turned into a red flag.
The next event for the competitors and fans of the Southern All Star Racing Series will take place on Saturday June 15 at Smoky Mountain Speedway for the 3rd Annual Big Daddy 500 event. The event will be 40 laps in distance and pay $5,000 to the winner of the event.
