A nostalgic four day weekend where race fans will be treated to four electrifying nights of Super Late Model and Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour action in three different states. Over the course of the extended weekend four past legends will be honored and lots of old race stories will be shared at the following venues; Tyler County Speedway, Wayne County Speedway, Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway, and West Virginia Motor Speedway. The unique twist to the traditional ‘speedweek’ will see racers compete Thursday to Sunday, June 13ththrough June 16thfor a chance at four prestigious memorial event titles which pay tribute to some of the regions most recognized names and our military heroes including the 25th Earl Hill Memorial, Freedom Fighters 40, 1st Herb Scott Memorial, & the Mark Balzano Memorial. Each night a $4,000 dollar payday and $400 to start money will be up for grabs for the Super Late Model division as the fastest stock cars on the planet battle it out where only one will claim the inaugural “ICON CROWN” ranking themselves among the regions legends and current greats. Joining the weekend long activities will also be the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour “Duel on Dirt” Speedweek that will pay a generous $1200 to win and $150 to start while showcasing some of the east’s best open wheel modified wheelmen.

When the extended weekend of memorial events get underway it will be the high banked 1/4th mile Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV that will greet the eager participants. Racers will converge on the “Bullring” for a rare Thursday night running of the milestone twenty-fifth commemorative edition of the speedway’s most traditional race in its thirty-nine year history the “Earl Hill Memorial” honoring the former speedway legend most commonly known off the track for his unique handle bar mustache and red & white polka dotted welders cap. Area race fans will gather to once again honor Earl who made Tyler County Speedway his personal playground during the 70′s and 80′s with multiple track championships and a plethora of feature wins at the “Bullring” and throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley racing scene. South Park, PA’s Jared Miley has captured back to back running’s of the Earl Hill Memorial but a past winners list include the likes of Zack Dohm, Tim Dohm, Mike Benedum, Bobby Hill, Tim Hitt, Butch McGill, Gary Dalton and many others.

“The race is in it’s 25th year so we wanted to do something new and big for the race fans” stated Tyler Promoter, John Watson. “We couldn’t think of a better and more unique way to truly showcase it than to make it a Thursday show and the first night of the Icon Tour. The stars are aligning and this should be an absolutely epic way to honor an true legend of the speedway. We wanted to race the 25th Annual “Earl Hill Memorial” on a day that no other track was competing against it so that any area driver and race fan can be part of the magical event and show their appreciation and support” concluded Watson. Another $4k will await the Super Late Model pilot’s who attempt to conquer the lightning fast dirt oval in honor of our current and past military heroes. The annual Freedom Fighters race will be changed from it’s usual fall date to the early summer event in order to be part of the “Icon Memorial Tour” Speedweek. Help support our nations armed forces by supporting this huge show, America’s military forces suffer and sacrifice their lives each day for our freedom. Herb was also a ten time Pittsburgh Racing Association Champion, had over 500 career feature wins to his name, and was inducted into the Dirt Track Hall of Fame in 2008. Passing in 2010, Herb Scott’s racing journey is now set to continue from above as fans will join participant’s and family in the remarkable night in which his memory will be carried on by anxious racers vying for the first spot on the events win list.

“We are honored to be part of the ICON Memorial Tour, and are anxiously looking forward to honoring our childhood hero, Herb Scott, during this event” stated PPMS Promoter, Matt Miley. “When we recall heading to the WV BULLRINGS we remember Earl Hill, for fans in our area it was Herb Scott. Playing host to the Icon Memorial Tour finale the suspenseful, high speed 4/10′s mile West Virginia Motor Speedway will look to finish the weekend off in the grand fashion that only the “Speedplant” can provide. The 2nd Annual “Mark Balzano Memorial” will honor the tragic loss of area racer and brother of Dirt Late Model great Mike Balzano of Parkersburg, WV. Family friend, Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV took the Balzano Memorial in a rain delayed make-up show on September 2010 that featured a plethora of late model talent and set the stage for this races great history to begin unfolding. The finale show will also crown the inaugural ICON Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek Champion with a $1000 cash bonus and a huge one-of-a-kind trophy after their four nights of effort.

After finding the format page on the Facebook page I see there is a points system to be kept for all 4 races. Does the tour points champion win anything? Maybe it's on there and I just missed it. Or are points kept just to determine provisional starters?

Yep, I should have read the release a little better. That helps with getting drivers to hit all 4 tracks.

It will be interesting because of the wide range of tracks, from the Tyler County bullring to the Monster Half Mile. Hope they get a nice group of cars to follow the whole thing.
