Justin McRee of Cottondale, AL is undefeated this season in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model competition at Magnolia Motor Speedway. J-Mac has three consecutive wins at The Mag, and will be looking for victory number four on Friday night and number five on Saturday night.

Derrick Mackmer of Purvis, MS leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 439 points. Mackmer is the only driver that has competed in all 11 weeks of competition held, and he has three more weeks to earn full points before he hits the 14-week point of the 2013 season.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 29. Drivers can compete in as many events available to then each week, only their best event point total for that week will count.

Once a driver reaches the 14-week point in their NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, they will begin to net points, by trying to replace the lowest weekly point total with a higher one.

A major story has developed involving the second-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings, Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS. It has been reported that Arnold has left the Reynolds Motorsports/Billy Riels Racing Team. Arnold, who has 435 points, is reportedly putting together his own team.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is third in the standings with 432 points and Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fourth with 427 points. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 380 points and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is sixth with 379 points.

Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS holds down the seventh spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 377 points and Dana Eiland of Salem, AL is eighth with 358 points. T.J. Hays of Bradford, TN is ninth in the standings with 350 points.

Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 348 points, and can be considered the hottest driver in the series. In seven races, Dudley has five wins, and finished second in the two races he didn’t win.

In the coming weeks as the top competitors close in on their 14th week of competition, we will outline the gauge that is used to determine “Who’s Hot and Who’s Not” that is called the Weekly Point Average, or the WPA, for drivers in the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings.

The highest WPA a driver can obtain is 50, which means that driver has won at least one race in each of the 14 weeks used to determine their season point total. In the coming weeks, there could be a driver with a higher WPA than the driver leading the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings that week.

Dudley is one of those drivers, as he has a WPA of 49.71. He will be a driver to watch as the second half of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season unfolds. Another driver that falls into the “Who’s Hot” category sits 11th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings.

Ricky Waggoner of Martin, TN is just four points behind Dudley in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings. Waggoner also has five wins in seven races, with the other two being 47-point fourth-place finishes. That gives Waggoner a WPA of 49.14.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS and Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA tied with the most points at the end of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season and both drivers had WPAs of 49.86. Washington won the 2012 Championship by virtue of the tie-breaker with more 50-point wins than Trosclair.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
