Southern All Star Racing Series Rolls Into Talladega Short Track for 2nd Annual B.J. Parker Memorial on June 22

Huntsville, AL- June 13, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series will conclude the month of June with a very special event on Saturday June 22 at Talladega Short Track as the tour visits “The Hornet’s Nest” for the 2nd Annual B.J. Parker Memorial, which will be 42 laps in distance and pay the winner $4,200 for their efforts at the historic 1/3 semi-banked red clay oval racing facility promoted by Alfred Gurley and Lynn Phillips. The number 42 is being used for lap distance and money in honor of the late Mr. Parker’s race car number during his driving days on the short tracks in the Southeast.

The race is held in memory of the late B.J. Parker, who passed away April 4, 2011. Mr. Parker was the founder of the Southern All Star Racing Series and was a teacher and mentor for many racers, track promoters, and track officials of today. Parker was also selected to the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002. After hanging up his helmet, Parker became a pioneer in the promotion end of racing and began by operating the Dixie Speedway in Midfield, AL back in 1967. Throughout the years, most every top Dirt Late Model driver in the country has competed with the Southern All Star Racing Series, which is a true testament to its late founder. B.J.
