BOYD SPEEDEWAY RESULTS
06-14-2013

(CHATTANOOGA, RINGGOLD GA) After a week off so that the locals could enjoy the opening of Chattanooga’s Riverbend Festival it was time to get back to business. With Mother Nature providing perfect weather conditions the racing began with the running of the qualifying heats in each class. First would see the “Heavy Weights” B-Hobby bring their racing machines to the racing surface for two 6 lap qualifying heats. Dallas Brooks in that familiar #45 would take the first and Jimmy Smith in his XXX would take the second. A great field of competitors would line up for two heats in the Crate Late Model division with Todd Morrow holding off Jeff Smith and Jason Welshan in the first heat. David Tindell would take the checkered flag in front of Dustin Golden and Jerry Coffman in the second heat race. The A-Hobbies were up next and Georgia’s John Clark III in his #10 would finish in front of #16 Josh Walker in Heat #1. In Heat #2 fellow Georgian Michael Franks #F4 would finish first over Thomas Cagle. Last of the heat races would see the Steel Headed Late Models compete in two heats with Blake Armatige #37 and Ringgold’s Jamie Perry #P4 take victories respectfully.

Drivers and Crew members had made as many adjustments to their racers as they could and it was now time to bring each class to the starting field for the nights feature events. The B-Hobby racers were first and with a couple of regulars in Dallas Brooks #45 an XXX Jimmy Smith bringing the field to the green an early caution on lap 1 would see contact between the two leaders and the #45 of Dallas Brooks spinning in turn 4. Brooks would retire to the pits with mechanical problems leaving Jimmy Smith to lead every lap and take the victory over #47 Lee Harbin, #34 Oscar Wilson and #38 Jeff Irvin.

Next up would bring the Crate Late Model Division to the front stretch and what a race the fans were treated to. Starting on the front row were the T16 Todd Morrow and #111 David Tindell and as they brought the field to the green Morrow would take the early lead. A quick move from #17s Jeff Smith would capture the second running position on lap 1, but a hard fighting Tindell wasn’t going to give up easily. A lap 3 caution would be displayed for a slowed Jeff Smith after brushing the front stretch wall and Smith would retire to the pits with mechanical problems after the contact. On the restart Morrow would continue to lead but now Tindell had a new competitor wanting that runner-up’s position as #47 Dustin Golden was beginning to show his muscle. A lap 7 caution for #T86 Tommy Miller in turn 4 would slow the field up for a restart. Morrow leading Golden following closely and good battle was taking place behind them with Defending Division Champion Jason Welshan and Soddy Daisy’s Jerry Coffman. The two battled lap after lap door to door with Coffman leading one lap and Welshan leading the next. As the two continued to battle side by side, second place runner Dustin Golden decided that if it was good enough for them to battle side by side so could he. After a lap 11 caution for Bo Eaton, Golden decided it was time to battle leader Todd Morrow. Morrow had continue to lead using the lower lane of the racing surface and on the restart Golden carried his #47 deep into the turn on the top side of Morrow. The two now also were battling side by side with Morrow edging Golden lap after lap at the line. Morrow would take a hard fought battle for the victory over Golden, Welshan would finish a half car length ahead of Coffman for third and outside pole sitter David Tindell would round out the top five.

The fans settled back into their seats after a great Feature Event the Crate Late Models had displayed and it was now the A-Hobby division’s turn. A pair of Georgian’s would lead the field to the green with John Clark III on the pole alongside #F4 Michael Franks on the outside. Clark would take the early lead at the drop of the green but by lap 2 Franks had assumed the lead over now second place runner and previous feature winner #16 Josh Walker. Walker would make his move on lap 5 for the top position. Walker would go on to lead a caution free race with Franks running second and Clark III in third. Rounding out the top 5 was #A6 Casey Thurman and #47 Jeff Allen.

The Steel Headed Late Models were now aligned on the front stretch and ready for their 25 lap $1000 to win feature event. #37 Blake Armatige would have the poll after winning the first of two heat qualifying races with Ringgold’s Jamie Perry on his outside. At the drop of the green Perry had the momentum from the top side to carry his #P4 deep into the corner and lead early off turn 2. Armatige settled in to a close second with #T6 Todd Hernandex and #A1 Rick Hixson battling for third and fourth. Another Feature Race that would race caution free and would see Ringgold’s Jamie Perry finish in front of #37 Blake Armatige ( his best finish @ Boyd Speedway ) followed by T6 Todd Hernandex, Rick Hixson and Ringgold’s Mike Tinker.

In the evenings only other feature the A18 of Joe Cross would out race the #V20 of Brad Cross to the checkered flag in the FWD Division.

A great night of racing with very few cautions and the fans were able to pack up and head home by the early time of 9:45. Great job by the staff and crew of Boyd Speedway for operating in a quick and professional fashion. Full racing program on the slate for next week, gates will open at 5:00 pm and hot laps at 7:00.

A straight away behind is not a close second, and why would they have a motor rule that would let you spend that much money on a motor, if no one can run with it what fun is that ? no wonder the limiteds don't come.
