Rodney Sanders Increases 2013 Win Total to Eleven; Busy Slate Ahead

Happy, Texas (06/18/13) - Rodney Sanders raced to his eleventh win of the season over the weekend in his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified.

The team opened a busy week on Tuesday night at I-35 Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) with a $5,000-to-win race, which was sanctioned by the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). Thirty competitors registered for battle, and via a heat race win in preliminary action Sanders earned the fifth starting spot for the 40 lap finale. Rodney progressively worked his way forward during the course of the feature before crossing the finish line just a few feet behind race winner, Jason Hughes, to register a second place finish.

Wednesday evening took the USMTS racers to Amsoil Speedway (Superior, Wisconsin) for a $2,000-to-win program. Twenty-seven entries registered for action, and on a track, where passing was difficult he started and finished fifth in his heat race, which left him starting fifteenth on the grid for the feature. Lap 6 of the main event found Sanders retiring from the feature due to poor track conditions.

On Thursday evening Rodney competed in a $2,000-to-win event at Eagle Valley Speedway (Jim Falls, Wisconsin) as a stout field of thirty-six entries filled the pit area. A third to second run in his heat race positioned him starting tenth in the feature event. He was up to sixth in the feature, when a mechanical failure forced him pitside to a nineteenth place finish.

Rodney Sanders began a two-night stand with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) and UMP Summernationals at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) on Friday evening for the opening round of the annual Masters. Thirty-six Open Wheel Modifieds were on hand for the $4,000-to-win program, and Sanders won his heat race from the pole position to move onto the redraw for the feature, where he was the recipient of the sixth starting spot for the 35 lap affair. As the race went green Rodney quickly found his way into the second spot and stalked the leader until lap 29, when he took over the top spot from Lucas Schott. Sanders led the last six laps on his way to the win, which marked his eleventh victory of 2013! He was followed across the finish line by Lucas Schott, Trent Follmer, Darrell Nelson, and Joey Jensen.

In UMP Super Late Model action a strong field of thirty-one competitors were in the pit area, and after qualifying eighth fastest in his group he finished seventh in his heat race, which left him short of locking into the feature. While his heat performance didn't transfer him to the feature he was scheduled to start fourth on the grid for the consolation event. Unfortunately mechanical issues discovered after the completion of heat race action forced the team to scratch from the remainder of the event.
The second leg of the Masters on Saturday night fell victim to Mother Nature at Cedar Lake Speedway as the event was canceled.
