a local car runs his RR trailing arm off of the front of his housing and centerd in the tube. He has done quite well with this set up and when i asked him about it he referd to it as a " poor boys birdcage" this is on a 3 link car. I was wondering what the benefits of doing this is? or what the theory is.

Howe did this on their dirt cars (mods and late models) for a while. They used a birdcage that ran a single bar off the centerline of the tube forward. Worked decent. They had a bushing that the bolt ran up and down in. Long bar on right and short bar on left for roll steer. It helped free up the rearend over a welded mount and gave a bit more travel than a heim end could.
