FASTRAK/Sweeney Cars “ROAR by the SHORE” Lands a New First Time Touring Winner at Raceway 7

(Conneaut, Ohio) – The FASTRAK Sweeney Cars Northeast Touring Division rolled into Raceway 7 for the first of three events for the “Nation’s First and Premier Pro Late Model Series in the Country” this 2013 season. They we’re also the opening race spectacle entitled the “ROAR by the SHORE” presented by FASTRAK/Sweeney Cars with almost $16,000+ purse up for grabs in the 2 exciting days of FASTRAK Pro Late Model Racing. A great crowd flocked to the 7/16th mile facility Friday evening located in the “Buckeye State” of Ohio for the $1,200 to win show. The event was stop #4 of the 2013 season for the 7th consecutive year running FASTRAK Sweeney Cars Chevrolet Buick GMC Touring Division.
Time trials were used to set the starting line-ups for the heat races with Kyle Zimmerman setting fast time of 18.760 seconds at 83.955 MPH. Problems came for Bobby Rohrer who broke a drive shaft during his time trial and wasn’t able to start his heat or feature. As it has been all year, the track was very fast, with Chad Wright lowering the FASTRAK track record to 18.350 in the first heat. In his first race since returning from his Honeymoon, Dave Airgood Jr. drove from the outside front row to Hoosier Race Tire/ VP Race Fuels Victory Lane in the FASTRAK
Late Models Northeast Touring Series event, his first-ever touring event win.
Reigning FASTRAK World Champion and Raceway 7 champion Max Blair brought the FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series feature to the green with newly-wed Dave Airgood Jr. on the outside of row one. After a quick caution in lap one Airgood took the lead but caution flew for the cars of Breyton Santee and Bob Pifer, who spun in turn four as the leaders completed the lap. In turn one after the restart Santee, Wayne Robertson, and Bruce Hordusky piled up with Hordusky winding up on top of the Robertson car.
After the restart back to green Airgood again led with Blair second. At lap eight Blair was challenging at every turn but Airgood held on to a slim lead. Caution appeared at lap nine when Khole Wanzer slapped the wall in turn two. Airgood again led after green for one lap when Breyton Santee and Bob Pifer got together in turn four with Pifer hard into the front straight wall. With twelve laps in Chad Wright managed to get by Blair and set out to catch Airgood. Scott Gurdak wound up sideways in turn two one lap past halfway allowing Wright to start on the front row next to the leader.
Wright made several attempts to get by for the lead, getting alongside at lap 21, but foiled by lapped traffic. Wanzer again spun in turn one a lap later just after Airgood got by in front of Wright. For the single file restart it was Airgood leading the way with Wright and Blair tucked in right behind. Dave Airgood was up to the task and drove to Victory Lane for his first ever touring win and making the 4th different FASTRAK Northeast winner on the 2013 season. Chad Wright, the current track points leader, wound up second with Max Blair third, Kyle Zimmerman fourth, and Billy Henry fifth.
