Jimmy Mars Looks for Success Once Again in Lernerville’s Firecracker 100

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 team traveled south to the Land of Lincoln on June 21-22 for a pair of UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals stops. On Friday night, the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois played host to a $10,000 to win showdown. Jimmy laid down the fastest lap in his group during the qualifying session and later finished second in heat race action. After rolling off from the inside of the fourth row in the 40-lap main event, Jimmy had a top five run spoiled by a lap nine incident, which caused him to retire with heavy damage in the seventeenth position.

At the Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on Saturday evening, Jimmy posted the third quickest lap in his group during time trials prior to once again running second in his heat race. The Menomonie, Wisconsin star then moved up two spots during the 50-lap, $10,000 to win feature event en route to a strong fourth place performance behind only winner Ryan Unzicker, Brian Birkhofer, and Brandon Sheppard. Complete results from the pair of Summer Nationals battles can be accessed online at www.thehelltour.com.

Mars Racing will now turn their attention to the 7th Annual ‘Firecracker 100’ on June 27-29 at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. The three-day World of Outlaws Late Model Series extravaganza will kick-off with a pair of $6,000 to win prelims on Thursday and Friday. Things will heat up in a big way on Saturday, as a 100-lap main event will close out the weekend. A $30,000 payday will once again greet the winner of this year’s version of the ‘Firecracker 100.’ Jimmy is usually lethal when he enters the pit gate at Lernerville, as he cashed the big check in the ‘Firecracker 100’ in both 2009 and 2011.
