This is on a 2009 Shaw 4 four bar. The LR brake is floated, what happens, if any thing, if it is clamped to the tube like a late model?

Confused?

It takes the braking forces away from the chassis and puts them into the pull bar. That's the main affect. How it affects your car depends on your driving style.

Thanks, we had one "cam over" last night. Reading some old threads I see where that is due to the rod being to short. Just trying to decide on how I want to repair it - new clamp bracket or floater with correct length bar.

Is it best that the rod on the floater be 2" longer than the upper 4 link bar?

Confused?

The top of the floater must be behind the top of the birdcage. When the LR is at full extension, the brake floater should still be behind the centerline of the axle. Use whatever length tube that is necessary. Id the brake floater can get to the centerline of the axle, it can go past it and tear up lots of stuff.

Okay - Thanks for the help. It appears that a 18" bar will be keep it as you suggest.
