Ray Cook Doubles Up with Pair of $3,000 SRRS Wins; Heads Back to Smoky Mountain!

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and his self-owned #53 team enjoyed a terrific weekend from June 27-29, as they claimed a pair of Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) victories! On Thursday night at the Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tennessee, Ray timed in fourth quickest in his group during the qualifying session and later took the win in his consolation race. After starting the 40-lapper from the outside of the fourth row, Ray drove to the front of the field to grab the point on lap 33. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace then led the remainder of the race to score the $3,000 triumph over Brad Skinner, Jeff Watson, Josh Putnam, and Ryan King!

Following a day off on Friday to promote the Tri-County Race Track, Ray returned to racing action on Saturday evening at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee. Ray laid down the fastest lap in SRRS qualifying and later took the win in the dash. After rolling off from the pole position in the A-Main, Ray led the first fourteen circuits before Billy Ogle, Jr. flashed by to grab the lead. However, mechanical problems on Ogle's #201 handed Ray back the top spot on lap 25 and the "Tarheel Tiger" capitalized by leading the remainder of the 35-lap distance. He picked up another $3,000 payday by beating Jason Welshan, Skip Arp, Josh Putnam, and David Crabtree to the checkers. Full results from the weekend sweep can be viewed online at www.southernregionalracingseries.com.

“We had a pretty fast racecar at both places, but we also had a little luck on our side as well with Billy (Ogle, Jr.) breaking in front of us at Smoky Mountain,” exclaimed Cook this week. “Then Thursday night was wide open at Duck River and we just had to be patient and try not to get caught up in anything. Fortunately, I just got a little body damage and was able to take the lead late in the race to get the win. Hopefully, we can keep running strong and contend for another victory at Smoky Mountain this Saturday!”

The Ray Cook Racing team is scheduled to make a return trip to the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee this Saturday evening, July 6. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will preside over the $5,000 to win ‘Firecracker 5000.’ Ray is always a threat when he pulls into the pit area at SMS and will be vying for his second straight win at the historic Volunteer State facility.
