CARTERSVILLE, GA – The point battle for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Championship tightened up after Week 16 competition as only eight points now separate the top two drivers, who have both now reached the 14-week mark of the their season, and will now begin trying to net on their respective 14 week point totals.

Trey Bright of Coker, AL remains the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point leader after driving the AKA Cores Chevrolet to a fifth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS. Bright has 663 points after six wins, 12 top five finishes and 14 top ten finishes in 16 races over 14 weeks.

Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL closed in on Bright for the point lead after taking his sixth NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division win of the season on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway in Moulton, AL driving the rossdesignz.com Chevrolet powered by a $3,195 Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine.

The win brought Spears’ point total to 655 after six wins, 12 top five finishes and 14 top ten finishes in 15 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division races over 14 weeks. Looking ahead to Week 17, Bright will be trying to net the lowest weekly point total among his best 14 at 41, while Spears will be trying to net on a 25.

Drivers that are third through sixth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings still have one more week to earn full points before they hit the 14-week mark of their season.

Dave Nations of Raymond, MS finished outside the top ten on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, and had a 41-point night, but he remains third in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 609 points. Nations has one win, nine top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 14 races over 13 weeks driving the Street Stock Set Up Specialists Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine.

Wayne Medders of Morton, MS also had a 41-point night on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS to stay in the fourth spot of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 575 points. Medders has four top five finishes and ten top ten finishes in 16 races over 13 weeks in the Medders Construction Chevrolet.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS drover the American Portable Buildings Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine to a seventh-place finish on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway and is fifth in the standings with 558 points. Leftwich has five top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 13 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division races over 13 weeks.

Chad Hiers of Ocean Springs, MS finished outside the top ten on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsport Park for a 41-point night, but remains in the sixth position in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 539 points. Hiers has eight top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 15 races over 13 weeks.

Eddie Willis of Saucier, MS picked up the $1,000 top prize on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in the race co-sanctioned by the Mississippi Street Stock Series driving the Willis Racing Chevrolet. Willis has 484 points after two wins, 11 top five finishes and 14 top ten finishes in 15 races over 11 weeks. Willis still has three weeks to earn full points.

Roger Flynn of Denham Springs, LA is eighth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 474 points after earning 41 points on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park driving the Flynn Racing Chevrolet. Flynn has eight wins, 11 top five finishes and 14 top ten finishes in 13 races over ten weeks. Flynn can earn full points for another four weeks.

Keith Coan Twin Creek, AL and Charles Coan of Danville, AL are tied for the ninth spot in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 461 points apiece. Keith Coan has one win, seven top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 11 races over 11 weeks driving the Bishop Body Shop Chevrolet. Charles Coan has seven top ten finishes in 11 races over 11 weeks in the Coan Racing Chevrolet.

In other NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 16 action, Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS drove the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet to his second win of the season on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway. Bill Pulliam of Overt, MS also picked up his second win of the season on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA driving the Crosby Tugs Chevrolet.

The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 16 race schedule for Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL was rained out.

A total of 212 different drivers have earned points in the first 16 weeks of NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division competition.
