(Peebles, OH) A very rare event is coming to Brushcreek Motorsports Complex this Wednesday July 17th. Not only is it a Wednesday night racing event but 100% of the profits from the $5,000 to win Late Model race are given away as College Scholarships. Its Steven Partin’s Hidden Gem sanctioned by the UMP Summer Nationals and it is coming to town Wednesday night! This is the only event in the country that gives all of its profits away as college scholarships. With this being the third year for the event there have already been five recipients of Hidden Gem Scholarship.
The race is the brainchild of 16 year old promoter Steven Partin. The inaugural running of the Hidden Gem was on July 6th, 2011 when Partin was only 14 years of age. The race payed $10,000 to win and national Late Model champion Darrell Lanigan took the checkered flag. That year three scholarships were given out. 2012 was the first year the event was under the UMP Summer Nationals sanctioning. The Summer Nationals is an unbelievable two months of racing that consists of 31 races over 39 days. Taking home not only his first Hidden Gem win but also his first Summer Nationals win at the 2012 event was Salt Rock, WV’s Eddie Carrier JR. This year the Summer Nationals return for their 28th race of the tour on Wednesday.
Steven Partin has been had at work promoting the event and has really picked up the pace over the past week. Last weekend Partin attended races at Southern Ohio Speedway and Jackson County Speedway to promote the event as well as enacting a ticket giveaway on Facebook that attracted over 12,000 views on the official Hidden Gem flyer. He was also on the 700 WLW Sunday evening racing report Sunday as he talked about the event. The promotion has been non-stop since early March.
This Wednesday things get started at 4:00 PM with the opening of the Pit Gates ($35 All Ages). General Admission Gates Open at 5:00 PM ($25 Adults, Kids 12 and Under $6). Driver Sign In Ends and the Drivers Meeting begins at 6:30 PM with Hot Laps beginning at 7:00 PM. The Late Models are racing for $5,000 and the UMP Modifieds will be racing for $750.
