CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point lead has traded hands several times during the first 16 weeks of the 27-week season, and Week 17 has the potential of another change at the top of the points list. Point leader Trey Bright of Coker, AL holds an eight-point lead over Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL in the standings.

There will be four NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division races on the Week 17 schedule. The action get underway on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and the three Saturday night races are scheduled for Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Both Bright and Spears have reached the 14-week mark of their respective season, and will begin the process of netting on their best 14-week point totals, and improving on their NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Weekly Point Averages.

Bright has 663 points among his best 14-week point totals, has the third highest WPA among the Top 20 in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings at 47.36, and will be trying to net on a 41.

Spears has a best 14-week point total of 655, the fifth highest WPA at 46.78, and will be trying to net on a 25. If Bright can post a 50-point win, he would net nine points. If Spears takes a 50-point win, he will net 25 points, and that would give him the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point lead.

Drivers that race at NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. A perfect 14-week point score is 700 which represents 14 50-point wins.

Once a driver reaches the 14th week of competition they begin netting points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher weekly point total. The 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.

The Weekly Point Average, or WPA, is a driver’s season point total divided by 14, or the number of weeks they have competed in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition up to the 14th week. A perfect WPA is 50.

A win with a car count of eight or more is worth 50 points and drops one point per position back to tenth spot. Drivers that finish tenth through field in the main event earn 41 points. Drivers that attempt to compete, but fail to start the main event earn 25 points. A win with a car count of less than eight is worth 40 points and drops back one point per position.

Bright and Spears are the only two drivers in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings that have reached the 14-week mark. The rest of the drivers will still be earning full points.
