Southern All Star Racing Series Ready for Michael Head, Jr. Memorial at TST July 27
Fayetteville, TN- July 21, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series is set to conclude the month of July with a prestigious event on Saturday July 27 when the tour visits Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL for the 16th Annual Michael Head, Jr. Memorial event, which will be 40 laps in distance and pays $4,000 to win and $300 to start.
This event is contested annually at the track better known as “The Hornet’s Nest” in the memory of Michael Head, Jr., who was a young up and coming Dirt Late Model racer in his own right and the son of longtime racing veteran and 1991 Southern All Star Racing Series champion Mike Head.
The Southern All Star Racing Series event at Talladega Short Track on Saturday July 27 will feature a complete program of practice, WhitePerformance.com A-B Group Time Trials, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns, and will conclude with the 40 lap, $4,000 to win 16th Annual Michael Head, Jr. Memorial. Joining the Southern All Star Racing Series in action at Talladega Short Track on Saturday July 27 will be all local divisions in racing action.
The visit by the Southern All Star Racing Series to Talladega Short Track will mark the series second trip of 2013 to the 1/3 mile semi-banked red clay oval, as Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN was victorious in the series first stop at TST in 2013 back on June 22. The Southern All Star Racing Series has previously contested 84 events at Talladega Short Track, with those races producing 39 different event winners. Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is the all-time SAS Racing Series winner at TST with ten victories, while Mike Head of Ellenwood, GA has garnered six tour wins at TST, while Mark Mears of Decatur, AL, Danny Peoples of Margaret, AL, Ted Lackey of Munford, AL, and Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN each have five series victories at the track better known as “The Hornet’s Nest”. Weaver is also the defending race winner of the Michael Head, Jr. Memorial event.
Among those expected from the Southern All Star Racing Series stable of drivers include series points leader Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN, Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN, Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL, Mark Rosner of Rockford, TN, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, Bret Holmes of Munford, AL, Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Mark Vineyard of Powell, TN, Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN, and Bo Shirley of Gadsden, AL, along with a strong array of talented local and regional racing stars such as Dylan Ames of Harvest, AL, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, Tim Roszell of Anniston, AL, Danny Peoples of Margaret, AL, Jason Wilson of Gadsden, AL, 2013 Ice Bowl champion Ross Martin of Talladega, AL, Todd Watson, of Childersburg, AL, Dillon Crim of Eastaboga, AL, Tim Busha of Boaz, AL, Logan Yates of Lineville, AL, plus many more are expected. The tour has presented eleven events already in 2013 and has seen eight different drivers visit victory with the series this season.
Activities for the Southern All Star Racing Series 16th Annual Michael Head, Jr. Memorial at Talladega Short Track on Saturday July 27 will see the pit area and general admission open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 6:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin after the driver’s meeting, followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. All times listed are Central Daylight Time. Ticket prices for the Michael Head, Jr. Memorial event at Talladega Short Track on Saturday July 27 in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, while a pit pass will be $30.
