CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 21 of the 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season has five races on the schedule of events. Five points still separate the top two drivers in the point standings, Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL and Trey Bright of Coker, AL, but several drivers are in position to begin mounting a challenge.

The Week 21 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division action begins on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS with an $800-to-win event co-sanctioned with the Mississippi Street Stock Series that was rescheduled from a rainout last Friday night.

Saturday night NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 21 events are scheduled for Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Spears leads the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 685 points, and he has the highest Weekly Point Average (WPA) among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 48.93. That means Spears’ average weekly finish among his best 14 of the season is just a whisker short of a second-place finish.

Spears will be trying to net on the lowest weekly point total among his best 14 which is a 45. In order to gain any points in NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 21 competition, Spears will have to turn in a top five finish.

Bright is five points behind Spears in the second spot of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 680 points. Bright has the second highest WPA at 48.57, and he will be trying to net on a 43 in Week 21 action, which means he would have to finish seventh of better to gain any points.

The rest of the drivers in the Top 20 of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings are trying to net on at least a 41, or they have yet to reach the 14 week mark of their respective seasons and can still earn full points.

With a pair of double $1,000-to-win features coming up on August 24 at Whynot Motorsports Park, and on August 31 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, several drivers are in a position to quickly climb up in the point standings and join Spears and Bright in the battle for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division National Championship.

Dave Nations of Raymond, MS is third in the standings with a best 14 week total of 650 points, he has the fifth highest WPA at 46.43, and he will be trying to net on a 41. Wayne Medders of Morton, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 626, he has the eighth highest WPA at 44.71, and will be trying to net on a 41.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 625 points, he has the ninth highest WPA at 44.64, and will be trying to net on a 41.

Eddie Willis is sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 619, and could make a move up the points list, as he will be trying to net on a 37. Willis has the tenth highest WPA at 44.21. Chad Hiers of Ocean Springs, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 601 points, and will be trying to net on a 35.

Roger Flynn of Denham Springs, MS is a driver to watch in the coming weeks. Going into Week 21 action, Flynn is eighth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 597 points and one more week to earn full points. Once Flynn reaches the 14 mark of his season, he will be looking to net on a 25 and a 40. Flynn has the sixth highest WPA at 45.92.

Charles Coan of Danville, AL is ninth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 588 points, and he will be looking to net on a 41. Bobby Joe Robinson of Falkville, AL rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 559 points and he will be trying to net on a 41,

One driver in a good position to quickly rise up through the Top 10 in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings is Calvin Cook of Pace, FL. Cook is 11th in the standings with 533 points and he has three more weeks to earn full points. Cook has the third highest WPA among the Top 20 in the point standings at 48.45.

Two drivers that are deep in the Top 20 of the standings still have good shot to move up into the Top 10 of the standings for an opportunity to earn a share of the $5,000 point fund, and also still have a mathematical shot for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Championship, but they are going to have to get busy.

Adam Cheeks of Guntown, MS is 17th in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 424 points and five more weeks in the seven weeks left in the season to earn full points. Cheeks has the fourth highest WPA at 47.11. Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS is 19th in the standings with 405 points, five more weeks to earn full points, and the seventh highest WPA at 45.

Drivers that race at NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. A perfect 14-week point score is 700 which represents 14 50-point wins.

Once a driver reaches the 14th week of competition they begin netting points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher weekly point total. The 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.

The Weekly Point Average, or WPA, is a driver’s season point total divided by 14, or the number of weeks they have competed in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition up to the 14th week. A perfect WPA is 50.

A win with a car count of eight or more is worth 50 points and drops one point per position back to tenth spot. Drivers that finish tenth through field in the main event earn 41 points. Drivers that attempt to compete, but fail to start the main event earn 25 points. A win with a car count of less than eight is worth 40 points and drops back one point per position.
