TAZEWELL, TN – For the second straight day, rain forced postponement of the $3,000-to-win $300-to-start West Chevrolet 50 for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series at Tazewell Speedway. The race has been rescheduled for September 19 and will continue with the Quick Six Dash and the 50-lap main event.

With the West Chevrolet 50 at Tazewell Speedway being rescheduled for September 19, it sets up a trio of $3,000-to-win 50-lap Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series races over three straight days. Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA will host the Chevy Super Series on September 20, and 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN will be the third race on September 21.

Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series qualifying for the West Chevrolet 50 at Tazewell Speedway took place on Saturday night with Tim Busha of Boaz, AL setting fast time with a lap around ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 11.594 seconds in the Kilpatrick Racing GRT.

Point leader and winner of the first two Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series races, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL was the second quick qualifier at 11.618 seconds in the Alexander’s Industrial Service GRT, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA was third fastest at 11.660 seconds in the J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment Special.

Richie Stephens of Salem, AL was the fourth fastest qualifier at 11.808 seconds in the K&J Trucking Special and Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS was fifth quick at 11.869 seconds in the Custom Spraying, Inc. GRT. David Brannon of Elora, TN rounded out the Quick Six at 11.977 seconds in the Elora Gin Company Special.

National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN and Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL arrived at Tazewell Speedway tied for the second in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings behind Thomas. Edge arrived at the track on time, and Johnson, well, he arrived on Johnson time.

Johnson arrived at the track late and missed qualifying before he could get his Tommy Pope Construction Warrior unloaded. Johnson will start 17th in the rescheduled West Chevrolet 50 on September 19. Edge qualified 11th fastest at 12.142 seconds in the Edge’s Gas Company Special.

Also in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series field at Tazewell Speedway was another National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Billy Thomas of Phenix City, AL, who was making his first competitive dirt late model appearance in 22 years. Billy Thomas timed in 15th quick at a respectable 12.528 seconds in the Alexander’s Industrial Service Special.

Rain came just as the six fastest qualifiers took the track for the Quick Six Dash which forced officials to postpone the event until Sunday afternoon. The second postponement came just after the drivers meeting on Sunday afternoon, as the competitors were preparing for hot laps.

The next two $3,000-to-win $300-to-start 50-lap events for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will be on September 7 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS and on September 8 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.
