I have ran fords the past 3 years. I bought them already built. This year I sold them and bought me a monte carlo. I have built it all from the ground up and now its time for the motor. I was wondering if I should go build a 383 stroker or if I should build a 406 or bigger. The rules says it has to run a 2bbl carb. And can have headers. Your not allowed to have roller rockers. Any help to point me in the right dirrection would be greatly appreciated.

Since you aren't going to be able to rev it very high and use radical cams etc due to the rocker rule I would build the most cubic inches I could afford.

I guess the biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is what's going to be to big and what would be the most reliable. I would hate to build a 421 and the 2bbl not give it enough fuel to run properly. I'm leaning toward a 406 or bigger but a couple people I have talked to says I could be getting into trouble with that because if I don't use a good race block then its like a time bomb but the rules says no race blocks. Has to be a gm block.

So what would be the best motor for a 3/8 track. A 383 stroker with a good set of heads and everything or a 406 or 408 with a good set of heads and everything. Thanks for all the help so far.

My brothers car was the track Champ last year at Hartford which is a BIG half mile. Motor is a 11:1 383 with rhs heads, gm marine intake and 2 barrel carb, 560 lift solid cam and 1.6 non roller rockers. Nothing special rev to 6400.
