CARTERSVILLE, GA – NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 23 action will get under way with a tie for the point lead between Trey Bright of Coker, AL and Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL. With three nights of races, there will be plenty of opportunities for them to try and net on the lowest of their best 14 week point totals.

Week 23 action will begin on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and then it’s a busy Saturday night for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division with four races at three tracks.

Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will highlight the Saturday night NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division action with a pair of $1,000-to-win feature races. The first race will be a make-up race for a Week 2 rainout, and the second feature will be the regularly scheduled Week 23 event.

St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL will also be in action on Saturday night with NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 23 events. Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will host a Week 23 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division event on Sunday night.

Bright and Spears have been at the top of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings all season long, and have traded the point lead several times. With five weeks to go in the 27-week season, it looks like the two combatants on the track, and friends off the track, will battle for the title right down to the wire.

Going into NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 23 action, both Bright and Spears have a best 14 week total of 689 points. Bright has the tie-breaker advantage with eight wins to seven wins for Spears.

Bright also has the net advantage with a 46, while Spears will be trying to net on a 48. If both drivers get a 50-point win this week, Bright can gain two more points than Spears.

Looking ahead on the point netting situation, that advantage goes to Spears if both drivers get a win in each of the five remaining weeks of the season. Spears can earn a possible 699 points, and Bright can earn a possible 698 points.

Calvin Cook of Pace, FL and Roger Flynn of Denham Springs, LA are third and fourth respectively in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings, and are the only two drivers along with Bright and Spears that still have a mathematical chance to win the Championship.

Cook has a best 14 week total of 668 points, will be trying to net on a 43, and can earn a possible 690 points if he wins out for the remainder of the season. Flynn has a best 14 week total of 657 points, will be trying to net on a 41, and can earn a possible 699 points if he posts a win in each of the five remaining weeks of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season.

Dave Nations of Raymond, MS is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 650 points, and will be trying to net on a 41. Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 627 points, and will be trying to net on a 41.

Drivers that race at NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. A perfect 14-week point score is 700 which represents 14 50-point wins.

Once a driver reaches the 14th week of competition they begin netting points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher weekly point total. The 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.

The Weekly Point Average, or WPA, is a driver’s season point total divided by 14, or the number of weeks they have competed in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition up to the 14th week. A perfect WPA is 50.

A win with a car count of eight or more is worth 50 points and drops one point per position back to tenth spot. Drivers that finish tenth through field in the main event earn 41 points. Drivers that attempt to compete, but fail to start the main event earn 25 points. A win with a car count of less than eight is worth 40 points and drops back one point per position.
