Jeff Curl Captures Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series Casey’s Nationals at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway

Fairbury, IL- August 31, 2013- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series presented the second stop of its three-race Land of Lincoln Triple Shot on Saturday evening at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL and Jeff Curl of Forrest, IL would back up his 2013 track championship at the track by claiming his first-ever Summit Racing Equipment AMS victory and score a $5,000 payday in the process. Curl’s winning effort came in his Angus Valley/Pro-Tire and Automotive/Pontiac RV/Chatsworth AG/Longhorn Smokehouse/Petersen Chevrolet-Dodge sponsored #12 Bob Pierce Race Car powered by a Friedman Race Engine.

Outside polesitter Chad Kinder would take the lead at the start of the event and would lead the first five laps before mechanical issues ended his evening, handing the lead over to Steven Brooks on a restart, but Brooks time at the point was be short lived as Matt Mevert would roar past and hold the lead until lap 12 when Jacob Curl would motor past him for the top spot prior to a lap 13 caution flag. Curl would survive two more cautions and keep Mevert at bay to pick up the $5,000 victory. Mevert would take runner-up honors with the series for the second straight night, while Jacob Poel would finish in the third position. The duo of Jim Farris, Sr. and Jay Ledford would round out the top finishers in the 40 lap event.

The remainder of the top ten finishers at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway’s Casey’s Nationals were Friday night’s Farmer City winner Jeff Leka, followed by hard charger and 20th starting Brian Lynn, Jeb Friedman, Donovan Lodge, and series points leader Bryan Barber. The 40 lap, $5,000 to win event would be slowed by seven caution periods and took 42 minutes to complete.

In preliminary action, Lance Dehm would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among 52 entries at 13.985 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Levi Kissinger, while Jay Ledford scored the win in Williams Precision Engine heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Jeff Curl, with Chad Kinder winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Summit Racing Equipment heat five would go to Matt Mevert, while Steven Brooks won Williams Precision Engines heat six. The Wehrs Machine B-Mains were won by Mike McKinney and Brian Lynn. Series provisionals went to Bryan Barber and Josh Ferguson, while Jared Cagley and Tommy Duncan.

The Land of Lincoln Triple Shot tour concludes tonight Sunday September 1 at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL with Mod Fall Nationals. This event will pay $5,000 to win and $250 to start.
