View Full Version : Noah Daspit Clinches $10,000 NeSmith Chev/OMG WRS Title

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS has clinched the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Championship after driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT to his 14th win of the season on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA. Daspit had did have to overcome some adversity, to seal the deal for the $10,000 title.

Daspit had some problems with his primary car, the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star in the pre-race warm-up laps, so he climbed into the car of his teammate, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, set fast time, and won the race. Lee drove the car to his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS.

While Daspit has 14 wins this season, only 13 of them count in his best 14 week total of 699 points because he posted two wins in the same week, and only one can count in the 14 week total. With four weeks left in the season, the 43-year-old driver needs one more 50-point win to become the first driver in the eight-year history of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series to record a perfect point total of 700.

After 23 weeks of the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, Daspit has 14 wins, 25 top five finishes and 27 top ten finishes in 30 races. Daspit is the series leader in wins, top five finishes and top ten finishes.

While Daspit has clinched the Championship, there are still several battles for the remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Top 10 points fund-paying positions.

Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition, but remains second in the standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points. Dudley has nine wins, 15 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes in 17 races driving the Zaxby’s Rocket.

Lee’s victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park netted him two points to bring his best 14 week total to 685 points and the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings. Lee has four wins, 23 top five finished and 26 top ten finishes in 30 races.

Mike Palasini of Leland, MS did not net any points in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition, but he remains in the fourth spot with a best 14 week total of 682 points. Palasini has seven wins and 13 top five finishes in 20 races driving the MP Trucking Trak-Star.

Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY drove the SGR Equipment Rocket to a third-place finish to net six points on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN to move up to the fifth position in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 673 points. Glisson has three wins, 12 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 18 races.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS netted three points on Friday night after a third-place finish at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park and moved up to the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 669 points. Scarbrough has two wins, 14 top five finishes and 22 top ten finishes in 31 races driving the Villa South Trak-Star.

Robby Moore of Brosley, MO did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 action and dropped to the seventh spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 668 points. Moore has one win, 15 top five finishes and 20 top ten finishes in 20 races driving the Custom Race Cars Trak-Star.

Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN moved up to the ninth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings after netting five points with a fifth-place finish on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports driving the Ronnie Cooper Trucking Rocket. Cooper has a best 14 week total of 665 points after one win, 12 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 16 races.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS did not net any points in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 action and fell back to the ninth spot in the standings with a best 14 week total of 661 points. Arnold has six wins, 12 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 23 races driving The Strength Center Trak-Star.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS moved up to the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings after netting 23 points with a third-place finish on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS driving the Star Plumbing Trak-Star. Williams has a best 14 week total of 660 points after three wins, 12 top five finishes and 25 top ten finishes in 20 races.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 action, Steven Forsythe of Ohatchee, AL drove the Forsythe Racing Special to his first NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN picked up his third NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports driving the Greg’s Sawmill Special. Jimmy Cliburn of Star, MS took the win on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in the Cliburn Performance GRT.

Chris Jewell of Houston, TX drove the Jewell Racing Special to his second NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS picked up his first win of the season on Sunday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS driving the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star.

Two-time Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge after Jordan gave them their 43rd win of the season.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV is second in the Chassis Manufactures Challenge standings with 25 victories. The defending and four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is third after victories by Daspit, Lee and Cliburn brought their season win total to 24.

Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth seven wins. Also participating in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first wins are Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN, TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, and CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN.
