I have seen several of these Mastersbilt hybrids for sale. Why are they called hybrids? What is different from a standard Mastersbilt?

No such thing as a "standard" MasterSbilt anymore. There are Smackdown cars and there are GenX cars. The hybrid cars are a hybrid of the two.

Thank you for the reply. So would this be a car that started as a gen x and later changed to a smack rear or was it originally built that way.

MasterSbilt made them that way.
But...if you're looking to buy used, have the seller give you the serial number off the car if you can't see it for yourself and then call MasterSbilt and make sure it is what they are claiming it is as far as year and configuration.

They are not a gen x front with a smack rear. That would be a gen xtra. or a gen x plus. They have a smack front end with gen x birdcages. And they were suppose to be crate cars or at least thats what they told us.
