Billy Moyer Nabs Top Five in Knoxville LM Nationals; Eyes Pittsburgh Next

(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) The Billy Moyer Racing (BMR) team headed to the Hawkeye State for the 10th Annual 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals' from September 26-28 at the hallowed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. The three-day Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series extravaganza at the 1/2-mile Marion County Fairgrounds facility kicked off with a pair of $7,000 to win programs. On Thursday, Billy Moyer won his heat race in preliminary action and later finished sixth in the 25-lap feature event. At Knoxville on Friday, Billy ran second in his loaded heat race, but was unfortunately involved in a multi-car tangle on an early race restart during the 25-lapper and was relegated to a disappointing twentieth place performance.

Things really ratcheted up on Saturday evening, as a $40,000 top prize was on the line in the 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.' Billy, who had earned the fourteenth most single-night points from the two preliminary shows, rolled off from the outside of the seventh row in the 100-lap headliner. "Mr. Smooth" was on the move early and often during the extra-distance affair and eventually maneuvered his famed #21 machine into the third spot late in the race. A deflating right rear tire unfortunately cost him a few positions in the waning laps and Billy wound up fifth in the televised race behind only winner Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards, Tim McCreadie, and Steve Francis. Full results from the Knoxville crown jewel event can be viewed by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.

Billy and his #21 team are slated to take the upcoming October 4-5 weekend off from racing action, but will be busy prepping their equipment for the rapidly-approaching ‘Pittsburgher 100’ weekend. The 25th edition of the ‘Pittsburgher 100’ will be a two-day program sanctioned by the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pennsylvania. Up first will be a $10,000 to win, 50-lap race on Friday, October 11, while the ‘Pittsburgher 100’ will wrap things up in a big way on Saturday, October 12 with a $25,000 winner’s check. Billy comes into the final two NDRL events of the season leading the heated point battle. Additional information on the huge doubleheader at PPMS can be accessed by logging onto www.thendrl.com.
